Spark Energy & Bankruptcy

Not sure if I should have posted this in the bankruptcy section, can someone move it if I should have done.

Anyways, moved into a property in October, the letting agent moved us over to Spark Energy without telling us. I tried to change to a different supplier on 2 seperate occasions but was stopped. Bill produced from Spark, I went bankrupt on 18th December. I contacted Spark to let them know I was bankrupt and they asked me to send a copy of my order and a letter in. Not a problem.

However they still wont let me change supplier. I wish to close the account with Spark in my name and start again with a new supplier in my partners name. Any suggestions on how I do this. It takes around 30 mins just to get through to them on the Telephone. Im still getting threatening emails about the bill even though ive told them im bankrupt. Just not sure what to do. :(

Your partner can try to sign up with the new supplier, they will then handle the transfer with Spark. You can't just cancel unless you move out, as you will still have the supplies.
Bankruptcy or not, Spark are notorious for obstructing transfers, see many other threads on this subject.

spark have no reason to object, as you would only be under a deemed contract
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

If you are bankrupt, expect any supplier to be round to fit a pre-payment meter. You know you are not allowed credit as a bankrupt.

If you don't have a pre-pay meter it is a credit account; potentially allowing someone to run up debit balances of many £hundreds.

The OP suggested that a new account be applied for in partner's name.

I thought there was some ruling that stopped such practice? Especially at the same address?

The OP is better posting on the Bankruptcy Board where finding a solution to such problems will no doubt be forthcoming..

no people have to have in another persons name or have a pre-pay but the supplier does not have to.

If they write money off, so you should

Can a landlord object to having a pre payment meter installed? Because \i doubt my landlord would want that.

You can have credit up to £500, above this limit you have to tell the creditor that you are bankrupt.
