2-yr contract + problems with Galaxy Nexus

Options
Hello all,
I wonder if any of you savvy people could advise me on a problem I have with my husbands phone contract.
He is one year into a 2-year contract with the 3 network with a Samsing Galaxy Nexus. He did not take out insurance on the device, and unfortunately early on he accidentally dropped it, cracking the screen and also it won't charge unless the device is switched off! Add into the mix my son playing games on it and running the battery down you get a phone that needs charging while switched off and therefore I cannot get through to him!

I also have an issue with the network coverage. Since he has had the phone (he pays £42 per month for unlimited data and voice) he is unable to use it as a phone in our lounge. What is the point in that?! He then uses the landline instead and it drives me mad as it's extra expenditure when he's already paying for unlimited calls on his mobile. Grrrrr!
Rant over - any advice on what he could do mid-contract? As a side issue he says that next time he will be getting an iphone.
Thanks in advance.

Why wait? If he really can afford iPhone, he can buy it right now and use on the current contract (sell the broken Nexus on ebay as 'spares or repair'). For iPhones buying outright is usually the cheapest option in terms of the total amount. IMO, if he can't afford this, then he can't afford the expensive contract either.

ATM, the only options are either to pay for a repair or to buy a new handset. It has to be either unlocked (sim-free) or locked to '3'.

No signal in the lounge cannot be a reason for cancelling contract. Either ask '3' for a signal booster ("Home Signal") or register with, say, 18185 for making very cheap calls from the landline.

P.S. Check your home content insurance if you have it. Some do cover mobile phones. So do banks for holders of some 'premium' accounts.

Once the contract finally expires, consider going PAYG.

Some PAYG virtual networks have excellent value bundles and one provider gives you a free bundle each month.

And if there are problems with the signal at any time, you can just port out to a different one
