When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :D

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Morning all.

Today is my day off so I'll be:

:cheesy: Planning a long walk for tomorrow, from home. £0.

:cheesy: Reading the Daily Mail Money online. £0. (Link)

:cheesy: All meals from stores.

:cheesy: Repairing my work shoes which really are on their last legs after numerous repairs. They need to last til PayDay. I can't just put up with the flapping sole as I have to climb up and down stairs a lot at work and I don't want to trip.

:cheesy: Doing my appraisal for work; doing it well will result in a small pay rise in April; doing it badly will result in a miniscule pay rise in April.

:cheesy: Doing some OnePoll surveys. Having done surveys for a whole year I'm stopping after this next payout. I think my time could be better spent on more profitable DFW matters; I don't really have the time for them just now.

:cheesy: Chat to relatives overseas through Facebook instead of by text. £0.

:cheesy: Talking to OH about plans for veg garden this year.

:cheesy: Make magazine holder from cereal box. Cut into shape and cover with wallpaper.

:cheesy: Checking online banking.

:cheesy: Walk around house and make a list of everything that still needs doing/repairing/cleaning for free.

:cheesy: Price paving slabs or source for free.

:cheesy: Walk around garden with OH and decide how we're going to tidy it up and make it work on a DFW budget. It's a disgrace at the moment and we need to put the wooden fence back together. A fortnight ago I retrieved two fence planks that had been abandoned in a ditch and this morning I retrieved two fence posts with metal fittings from a pile of fly-tipping in a local beauty spot. That should do it! I have no shame when it comes to legally wombling materials. Good for the environment; great for my wallet!

:cheesy: Look on Freecycle to see if anyone has unwanted gardening stuff. (Link)

:cheesy: Saw a great idea for making a bird feeder from a plastic bottle. (Link)

:exclamati Under new plans by Ofcom customers faced with unexpected increases in their monthly fixed phone/broadband bills will be able to cancel their contracts without penalty. Date of introduction still to be agreed. (Link)

  • Morning all. It's a Grandma Day for me today so spending the day using DD's electricity, coffee and food! It'll be a bit of a spendy day too, but only bargains at our local $taples store which is closing down.

    So far today I have:
    • Had breakfast from stores
    • Fed and watered the chickens
    • Made packed lunch for DH
    • Opened another e-savings account for annual bills (Christmas, bike insurance, MOT etc) :)
    • Checked banking
    I will also:
    • Go into town on same trip as taking DS3 to have his stitches out
    • Pay Christmas Fair takings into business account
    • Move £10 from 20p savings pot into my ISA
    • Look in $taples at 20% discounted items and only buy if I need rather than want them ;)
    • Drive to DS2's tonight to drop off DGS
    • Dinner provided by DS2
    • Drop into village pub tonight to celebrate my boss being another year older - he's picking up the bill! Should have been going to the meal but have to do the DGS run this month and that's a 3hour return trip. :(
That's my busy day planned, so I ought to get DS3 out of bed and ready for the hospital.

Today is abit of a spend day, off out shopping with my sister, need tp get DD feet measured and am hoping to get her shoes in the sale to save some money, will have to buy lunch out, but taking drinks and snacks for children.

Will post 2 ebay sales and also posting an old phone to mazuma, hadnt bothered sorting as it has a smashed screen, but looked and can still get £25 for it so im really pleased with that.
  • Go food shopping, but take cash out of ATM first rather then just hand over a debit card at the end to prevent overspending.

Morning everyone. Thanks ally for starting the thread.

It seems as soon as I take one step forward, I take two back. Last night, my conservatory door jammed shut and I cant free it. It locks and unlocks ok, but I just can't open it, so I'm having to go out of the front and down the side alley any time I (or more accurately the dog) need to get into the back garden. On top of that, I also noticed a small leak in the bathroom. Grrr.

    Today I have/will
    • Made sandwiches for work (and actually remembered to bring them today :rotfl:)
    • Walked to station then rail pass to work
    • Read free newspaper on the train
    • Free coffee & water at work
    • No frivolous spend (I do need to pop to the 99p shop but will only buy whats on my list)
    • Dinner from stores
    • Check online banking
    • Updated signature
    Have a great day everyone
Debt free since December 2015. It can be done

  • Hello all :hello:

A few DFW items for me today
    • Today is a planned NSD for me :j
    • Bought my own lunch in to work
    • Used the MSE template to send two letters off to Asda and Very to ask for delivery compensation. I was messed around a lot by both companies so it will be interesting to see what I get back.
    • Walked straight past the coffee shop and kept my £1.85 in my pocket. Vending machine coffees taste better now because they are free!!
    • Compiling a list of slow cooker receipes from the s/c thread and other places
    • Checked online banking
    • Edit signature to include NSD challenge
    • Home alone tonight so Im planning on spending a good hour re-organising my wardrobe
Thats all for now :) Happy Friday everyone!

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
  • Ooh great thread!

Today I have done / will do:

Made own lunch for work - cajun chicken breast and leftover salad from last night.

Turned all appliances off at plug instead of leaving on standby!

Signed up to Noddle - was a shocker but onwards and upwards!

Will do my exercise dvd after work at home

Ring Primus to see about cheaper phone line / broadband

Do washing but leave to dry overnight and just give it a 10 min tumble in morning

Make burgers to freeze for breakfasts next week ( I'm on low carb - sick of baconn at the moment!)
