Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 4th January January 2013 - . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning all and huge hugs for jools today Its a dreadful day that will pass before you know it .If I could take your pain away I would having been there myself honey.Cuddle your kids close and keep them by you today if you can.
I have been up since silly o'clock ,just couldn't get back to sleep once I woke up so decided that I'd just as well get up.
I have a check up at the breast clinic today only 6 more months before I get the all clear (fingers crossed) I'm obviously worried about my lovely Tessa and how she is feeling this morning, but its just one more hurdle to get over and get over it we will.We have got through worse ones.
Then yesterday late afternoon my stairlift chap rang to say he's got to re-arrange to installation as one of the workmen had gone down with this rotten virus thats going around. This morning I have the boys and Mikey has a football session to go to and the other two lads I will bring to my house and they will help to take the tree down and some of the decorations.
Definitely no shopping for me this week as I still have lots of bits and pieces to wade through before any fresh shopping is needed
<<hugs>> to those who are going through bad times at the moment January is a wicked month of the year but it is getting slightly lighter later in the afternoon so soon spring will be here once more and hopefully some sunny weather to brighten us all up.
Take care all
Onwards and upwards

Morning JackiO, Islandmaid
Another sleepless one here, just got so many things going through my head.
My DM's OH phoned last night to say DM had a mild heart attack but that she is fine, luckily she had her under the tongue spray at hand. She's been checked over an is fine. DM had 4 stents after she had 3 heart attacks 3yrs ago. I was ready to jump in the car and race up to see her but today is our DF's funeral. We were very close for 34yrs. I will miss her so much. It was on Jan 6th last year when we went to her DH's funeral. It's gonna be a sad day, JOOLS I will be thinking of you throughout the day and hope you cope as best you can.
Well I've pressed DH's trousers so his and my clothes are hung up ready. We have to leave here at 10.45 so plenty of time to get ready.
Still have some lo roast lamb so we'll have that with something for dinner.
JO sorry to hear about Tessa's job, let's hope their's another in the pipeline soon. Good luck with your hosp app.
Haven't caught up on y/day thread so I'll send (((hugs))) to all.0 -
Jools, hugs for you, thinking of you.
All heck breaks loose here today. Had phone call from friend last night, she needs to get her kids away from her ex husband for their own safety (his mothers words) so will be bringing them here today. That's ok, she's always welcome, BUT the house looks like a bomb has hit, so operation tidy up begins!!!
Will have 4 kids and 3 adults to feed tonight, so the kids will have pizza, homemade and we will have Thai turkey (leftovers!) curry. Then there are yogurts for pudding and I will mix up a cake or something to ensure there are no hungry mouths!
Weather forecasters say it will be dry today,so I will get washing out on line as soon as its light enough to see what I'm doing. Spent yesterday evening planning my garden growing as we didn't spend so much at Christmas, so have bought a greenhouse. Already got a pack of mixed seeds, so ordered potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce and cucumber. Will see how far I get on those.
Will send OH and the children out with the dogs later so I can get a minutes peace!! Positive vibes to all, as Jackie O said, January is a nasty month xxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning all,
Jools, hope today goes as well as it can, we will all be thinking of you xxxx
Beth, same for you, hope it goes well xx
JackieO, hope tessa, is ok, and you get on allright today xx
Moorhen, how terribly sad
Off to work today, but its friday :T, this has been a very long week, still got a lot done which is great.
Tonight dd's boyf is coming for dinner, I feel sorry for them, they have been to the pictures twice this week, and it costs a fortune, and they are running out of money, neither of them are the type to sit in a pub, so I invited him here for dinner, I will cook a chilli and rice with wraps and sour cream. Actually will cook 3 chillis, dd has a veggie one, the boyf likes a very mild one, and OH and I like a really hot one, but dd will help.
Need to do a wash tonight too, and have a clear round, dd at work today so need to drop her off this morning.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone
Jools - thinking of you today x
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Still dark but looking to be dry here this morning.
DH up and off to work stupid early.
Boys still fast asleep in their pits, will leave them until I'm ready to go out.
Dinner last night was an easy fish, chips/jacket potato and beans, not sure about tonight but I do need a few bits so will be going shopping shortly and will organise dinner then. Will also decide on a menu for next week.
Wasn't particularly productive yesterday. Still trying to plough my way through the washing, drying and ironing mountain, will continue with this today. May also do some baking/cooking although DH at a meeting which will be most of the day tomorrow so could leave it until tomorrow and do it at my leisure.
Took DS1 to mum's to collect his bike and spent over an hour on her telephone trying to make some headway with the lack of telephone landline/intermitent broadband - after 30 mins did actually manage to speak to a human - not a machine - have received 2 text updates since then, but before that since reporting the fault on their automated fault reporting system had heard nothing - maybe it's a very small step in the right direction, although the human I spoke to did say they don't know when the fault will be rectified! Have already organised a complaint letter and it went in the post yesterday on a guaranteed next day delivery and has to be signed for the other end. Neighbour caught me yesterday as I was going to post said letter to ask if we were having telephone/broadband problems, most of my immediate neighbours are experiencing the same problems - so everyone now writing to complain as they've all lived here longer or as long as we have and were told when previous problems occurred that they would be rectified and so obviously haven't!
Will be heading out shortly to bank and then do a small food shop, once boys back to school on Tuesday things be back to normal except that I'm on leave at the moment until 14 Jan - will be using the time productively I hope.
Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Morning everyone
Been up since 6am when H left. Enjoyed some quiet time and did some quick chores before kids woke,
Off to walk dog later, kids in tow. Here's hoping DD doesn't get knocked over again :rotfl:
Plans today are more cleaning, taking the kids out to lunch as last day of hols treat and no doubt there will be demands to play on the Wii.
Not sure what I doing for dinner, might do chicken cacciatore. H has announced he doesn't really like potatoes anymore so something else I am now having to avoid cooking or making sure I leave it out

Morning everyone. Off to work again soon. Not best pleased about having to work tomorrow, but it's only every 4th Saturday that I have to do it!
It's my birthday on Sunday, so my BF is taking me shopping and to Nando's :-) then I have taken Monday off work so I still sort of get a weekend!
Not being thrifty today - going to order a hot lunch from the woman who comes into work from a local cafe - they do some really nice meals and sometimes I just fancy a treat! :-)
Jools - my thoughts are with you and your kids today - I hope everything goes well.
I suppose I had better get out of bed and get ready! Ugh!!!the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0 -
Morning all
I've been coughing for ages so I thought I'd get up & leave hubby in peace for a while. He's driving me mad with his packups at present, he's not enjoying the ususal meals & I'm at my wits end trying to make something he'll eat, hopefully it the tail end of this virus he's had as I can't taste anything much.
Unclebryn hugs.
Jools thinking of you and the kids today.
LW hope finger is better today.
jackieO hope Tessa finds a new job ASAP.
Beth hope your DM is OK.
Molly, hugs.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
