and soon we will be paying for our banking again.
i wouldnt bother ringing your banks for a week or two after martins program tonight , their customer services will be bogged down for weeks now.
debt is a nightmare, it escalates and lives are ruined by it, but many of those following martins advice have spent spent spent , on themselves , too many nights out , that new car , the clothes , the plasma , the 360 , the holiday
and you know its true , want want want .... greed greed greed
or is everyone in debt because they couldnt afford the meals on their tables
yeh right.
youll get your money back ok ..... but your children will pay it back to the banks
I PROMISE YOU
So are you also suggesting that we just let the banks have our money they won it fair and square? and you dont think our kids will pay for it anyway?
Some of what youve said is true to a degree but you have gone a bit too far suggesting that its always the fault of the customer.
At the end of the day banks love folks to overspend dont they?0 -

If it transpires that people who run their accounts well, pay far less than those who mis-manage, it makes me wonder what some people who believe they fall into the first camp are concerned about in this thread.
I admit it, I'm concerned about my money. But then that's the point of the thread and site, money.
I also think the charges are unfair and should be reclaimed.0 -
Martin said on channel 4 news the other day, that he reckons approximately £20 million pounds of charges have been claimed so far. Divide that between all the big five banks.
One bank, Barclays has just announced a record surge in profit to over £7.14 billion pounds for this year.
Martin said any charges that have been claimed so far are just a drop in the ocean compared to all the banks profits just this year.
Quote from this article http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=417538&in_page_id=1
Britain's High Street banks are to reveal record profits of £37bn as customer complaints soar to an all-time high. The 'Big Five' will disclose their vast 2006 earnings - equivalent to almost £1,200 a second - over the next fortnight
All the major banks are forecast to disclose big increases in pre-tax profits, with the biggest, HSBC making around £ 11.5bn. Royal Bank of Scotland, which owns NatWest, earned an estimated £9.3bn, Barclays £6.8bn, Halifax owner HBoS £5.4bn and LloydsTSB £3.8bn.
Their combined stock market value is equivalent to the GDP of Argentina. City brokers believe profits in 2007 will exceed £40bn for the first time.
I think reclaiming charges is just a drop in the ocean to the banks, they know they have nothing to worry about as far as profits are concerned.I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0 -
icefall, that is correct, it has been mentioned a number of times, the banks make most of their profit from the minority of customers, which funnily enough, probably isn't anyone on MSE0

Agreed, although there MAY be other justified reasons. Can't think of any right now though0 -
Some posts are referrering to free banking coming to an end etc and what happened 24 yrs ago...most people did not have banking accs then. Most people were paid in cash and paid their bill by cash and I for one do not want to pay a bank to do something that I am well able to do for myself.
Therefore it follows that an overall charge being made means that inadvertently we will all be paying for these "offenders" whether they are intentional or not.Grocery Spends £90-£100 per week …. Payday each Friday0 -
If I had to pay for my current account and I hope I don't, I would still consider it money well spent. I know everyone says the bank gets to use my money and don't pay me for it.....perhaps they do but only until I want it.
All my bills get paid every month, I never have to think about them. My grandchildren think it is wonderful that their pocket money appears in their accounts the 2nd of every month.
I spent almost an hour with a personal banker last week, she moved money hither and thither, she sorted out my regular saver for next month. Her time has to be paid for as does the building etc.
I have banked with, dare I say it, Barclays for 27 years now. they have always provided me with good service. I could switch but I have no wish to. I could get a better rate of interest on my current account elsewhere but a few pounds would not replace the service I get now.Sometimes it is not all about a few extra pounds0 -

Follows what? What offenders?
Unsure what you're trying to say here

Not an excuse sarah but a reason why I have struggled for a year to find a job......
No childcare in the area as they are all fully booked, limiting availability to school hours. No jobs available during school hours. Any that do come up I am often bypassed because I have a Degree and they think I am overqualified. Cant get to the city for jobs I am qualified for as there is no childcare, cant afford to move to the city where the jobs and childcare are without an income. What do you suggest?PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSDEBT FREE DATE 29th MAY 2010...... CANT WAIT!!!!0 -

I used to tailor my CV to suit the job I was applying for. I certainly would not have mentioned having a degree if I had been applying for a job on Morrison's checkout tills. Not that I am denigrating checkout work, I have done it myself and a good CA makes all the difference to a shopping experience, but I know that they would assume you only want their job as a stopgap.
No maccds near you? they will often do flexi term time only work.0
