Vested interest in ramping the market. Why?

I have read on this forum that EAs and the media have a vested interest in ramping the housing market. I can understand why the former would have one but I don't understand why the media have a similar vested interest. Can anyone explain?

because the govt have certain papers in their back pockets, it's all spin spin spin.

if a story comes out about prices falling no doubt another paper will run one the opposite.

People love to read/hear about rising house prices.

House price crashes are seen as A Bad Thing, for whatever reason, and make everyone feel miserable and therefore switch off.

"The media" works entirely on "boom and bust" - ramp up a non-entity so you can slag them off the next week, talk up share prices so the editor can make a few grand on it then give youa "better deal" next week, in fact print any sort of borrocks because 30% of the population/sheep will buy your heap of dross if it's "sensational" enough...

All a load of carp really - "the meeja" will be just as quick to come up with the "I told yers" (even though they never did) when/if the tide turns.

An awful lot of media outlets have a fair amount of property related advertising. And I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of owners/editors were heavy investors in property either.

Typically the richer people feel - the more they spend - the more advertising money available (cf dotcom boom). High house prices make people who are buying one feel rich.
  • The government won't want a HPC - it reflects badly on them and it'll lose them the next general election, in a nutshell.

asside from the cynical and probably true reasons mentioned above, theres also a lot of tv programming about how to do up your home/make a fortune painting a few walls etc.

if the house price crash does come how likely are we to see kirsty on tv showing some greedy saps getting their home repoed cause they bought a fixerupper and nobody wants it.

You don't see much Tv on the poor.
Doesn't make good Tv, does it !!??

Everyone, including TV stations, have to make money.

Have you noticed how dull "house programs" are ??
-ALARM BELLS for anyone with any common sense.

We're on the top of slope, ready to crash.
