Speeding ticket doing 39 in a 40

Hiya,
I was hoping someone could give me some advice regarding a speeding ticket I have unfortunately just come home to.
The letter claims that I was driving at 39mph on a 30mph road. However the road (B4058 Bristol Road between Cromhall and Bagstone) itself is a 40mph limit and has 40 signs every 50m or so on the road and on signs. I've double checked this on Google street view and it's 40 for 80% of the road and national speed limit for the other 20%. There wasn't any temporary speed limits either.
There aren't any fixed cameras on the road and the letter states that it was a manual detection, I'm guessing that means a mobile van?
What's my best course of action?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Dont rely on google street view as the pictures can be well out of date, the only way to tell for sure is to go where you got the ticket and see for yourself.
If it is a 40 limit then take it to appeal which means a day in magistrates court though, though I would imagine the speed limit has been changed since the last pic on GSV were taken. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Go back and check, it will have a location on the FPN, take evidence, such as pictures and if you are correct, opt for court and take a good written lists of every single penny you have lost and make it damn clear you want it all.Be happy...;)0

Post back one way or the other. A recent speed limit change may not have been done right and you should therefore request a copy of the tro from the highways dept.0

worth asking on pepipoo too to see how it might play out if you do the court option. Assuming you haven't made an error, it means some inconvienience of course but fight it all the way. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Annoyingly it's 130 miles away  but I guess I'll have to go back to check / take evidence as you recommend.
I'll ask on Pepipoo too thanks for the suggestion Fivetide.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks

In 2011 the local Council were consulting on reducing the speed limit on some sections of the B4058 down to 30mph - see this page for the consultation documents:

The Statement of Reasons does say that if it were to go ahead, it would come into effect 2011/12. The photos on Google Streetview are from 2009.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Google search shows several websites with information on them dropping the speed limit on the B4058. These were dated Jan 2012 and some earlier.
So looks like they have changed. You missed them.
I thought they had to put signs up saying speed reduced?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

They probably have, but the OP may well have missed them as well as the 30 signs.0 -
They do, but not forever. I can't remember how long it is, but it's not long. Could have been done months before the OP used the road.
And I found these which indicate that the changes will have been made by now...

So I think that you've been correctly ticketed. I would imagine that after a "honeymoon" period they're now enforcing the limits.0 -
i have come accross places where they have dropped the limit, but havent taken down any signs to say otherwise, example of this was a few years ago where a road was dropped from NSL to 40MPH local council put bags over the speed limit signs going into and out of but left the remaining signs untouched, needless to say local youths ripped the bags off as soon as it was home time the same day, and they stayed like it for 6 months untill the local council had new ones made and errected.
so eventhough it maybe lowered the signs have to be changed to reflect the speed limit on that road.0
