Well its a few weeks down the line now and i am (very) slowly getting there i think :A
Have been meal planning and online shopping which saves an evening a week in the supermarket and time wondering what on earth we can have for tea etc. Hoping it will also save money in the long term once i get into it a bit better.
I have been getting to the office at 6am for a couple of hours 'thesis time' before starting proper work. It means the kids have to sort their own breakfast etc but they are more than capable! I sort their uniforms and they make lunch/pack school bags before bed so theres not much that can go wrong in the morning when im not there. (i think i need to 'let go' a bit and trust that the world will keep turning without me  )0 -
Well done! It's amazing how well people who you think depend on you can manage when they have to...keep it up.
And don't forget you're doing the hardest 6am starts now. Once you get past the 21st dec the days start getting longer. So it will get a little bit easier!!0 -
yep Flylady.net got me out of procrastinating (i'm also virgo and a bit OC).
The flylady is, also, on one of the forums, but don't do what I tried to do and use both flylady sites. You will be well and truly wornout. :eek:Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you can't get more time0 -
interesting to see this thread back again, it really makes you reflect on how far you've come (or havent come) since the thread was started.
things have slightly improved, but there is still considerable room for improvement. good to have a goal i supposeknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Hi There, This is a great site but the amount of information on here is huge any one got a quick reference guide to the best way to save money.
I need to cut back on nearly everything but dont have much time to read through all the posts for the best place to start, only have access to a PC at work and only get half an hour to eat and read this site.
Any quick ideas will be appreciated0 -
It really does depend on your situation and what you need to cut back on. Perhaps you could tell us roughly how much you spend and on what each month/week and we could try to give you some ideas?
This board is really for 'old style' saving which includes, among other things, scratch cooking, saving on cleaning and general household day to day running. Once we know about more we can make sure your question is in the right board for your specific needs.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Go onto the main site and read Martin's Give Yourself a Money Makeover
Then buy Martin's book
Then get internet access at home and join the forum
Then become addicted and really save money!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
do you cook from scratch? that is the biggest money saving thing I can think of in old style terms. if not, can you cook anything from scratch and learn to adapt.
we need to know a bit more about you before we can really help.

I would recommend Martin's book too - a trip to the library for that and you can usually get free Internet access there too. I would then look for things that are one-offs if time as well as cash is tight. Ideas for reducing utilities bills that will free up cash year round, for example curtains across windows and doors, keeping an eye out for offers on energy saving light bulbs, shopping around for the best utility price deals (Martin's newsletter if you can't check the forums daily). Bulk cooking is good too as long as you have the freezer space as it removes the temptation to buy take-aways and you can stock up on bargains. A savings pot to fund the bargain purchase too be it the £2 challenge or just the loose change at the end of the day.
It's difficult to advise others as we all have our comfort zones of what we will and won't do (turning down the heating for instance, some people survive at 16 degrees others want more) but even small steps will get you there.
I also second vanoonoo in that we need a bit more info (general) to give more specific guidance.
Hope this helpsAiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget
