Ticklemouse your life sounds strangely like mine (except for the parents, sorry to hear that about your Dad) mine are in their 70's and I'm the one who has to keep sorting their lives out :(

My other half seems to think he does a lot more than he really does around the house too.

Yes, moggins, what is it about OH's ? Mine tells me he's better than my last OH (which is true because he was an abusive SOaB) but they still think they are God's gift. (LOL)

There comes a time in your ife, when you suddenly realise you are becomeing the carer for your parents. It's quite scarey, because from being the eldest and therefore the first looked after, you suddenly realise you are telling your parents what is happening and (scarily) not to argue/bicker - as they told me and my sisters.

LOL, I sent mine packing from my house a few weeks ago and told them that until they could keep their arguing away from my kids not to bother coming back! How they've been married over 50 years without killing each other I don't know.

And I'm the youngest, how come I ended up with the job of sorting them out?

I must admit, occasionally I do let things slip. OK then, most of the time :D

To be fair though, I am pretty organised - but then I don't have kids! I like to have things where I can find them - that saves me time.

If I find it hard to get motivated, I bribe myself lol - put your treats off until you have done something - or indeed, reward yourself for a job done.

Also, re the studying - maybe you are one of those people who function better under pressure - I know I do. I was forever leaving stuff to the last minute, and it was amazing how important things like cleaning the loo got when I should have been studying!

Don't be too hard on yourself - if what you are doing works for you - go with it! If not - then there's your motivator for change. Make a big effort one day to have a big sort and organise, then try and keep on top of it for a few weeks and see if you prefer it that way.

i think you and i are wired in a similar fashion luis!

yes, i do thrive under pressure, but that said having improved at not leaving things til the very last minute, i no longer enjoy the thrill of rushing to get things handed in on the deadline. i'd rather organise myself (or, from where im at in this point of time, i think i'd prefer) to organise myself in such a way that i can spread my research out over a few weeks, then have a week for planning, then write in gradual chunks, and finish it say the beginning of the week it is due in.

the problem is being disciplined enough to do this, and having a system and the infrastructure in place to help me to plan all this, and get it done, whilst juggling everything else!

What scares me is that a few years ago my other sister and I thought it would be my middle sister who would look after M&D. Now I've moved nearer and am a SAHM so it's me!! My dad hasn't got long, unfortunately and my mum will be a 'creaking gate' like her mum (Not that I begrudge her that of course)

pavlovs-dog - all I would say is this, and I've only thought of this in the last few months. I don't know how old you are but live your life to the full. If you want to get qualifications, then do the work to get it and do it now. I was terrible at time management and I now feel I wasted that part of my life. You can still do the things you want to do now, in a couple of years. In 10 years it might be too late. At school I was told I could have got 10 straight A's. In my 20's. I realised what the teacher had said as I did what other people couldn't do, academically speaking.

Mind you - as Luis says - I was one of those who worked under pressure. I am a great crammer. Pity I can't remember it now though.
