Cheap tin trays. Place them overhanging the edges of the work surfaces whenever you go out. When cat jumps up, the tray falls off the edge, cat falls, and the tin makes a loud clanging clattering. do that for a few weeks, he might be cured.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0

We were told when we got Salem that if he did anything we didn't want him to do, such as scratching the sofa, we were to throw a childs tamborine near him and he would eventually learn not to do it. It never worked, he just started playing with it.
If we were to do something like that to Gizmo, I'm sure he'd probably have a heart attack or something because he's rather jumpy with loud noises due to the trauma of his first 10 weeks of his life,0 -
Problem with using punishment is that you need to be present to enforce it which is why he is taking advantage when you are not there.
I would prevent access to the kitchen when you are not there- close the door and when you are there teach him to go to a mat or something so you can reward him.0 -

.
This is where the puffer thing would come in handy. Cats are too smart for their own good, if they realise its you that's dishing out the punishment, they just wait until you're not there.
I would definitely take her to the vet, even if it is just a UTI they can be very dangerous for cats. Good Luck!0 -
NOt much help but my best suggestion is together rid of the work tops lol my cats don't do it often so I just lean work tops regular and always before food prep. Can't shut them out of kitchen due to layout of houseHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Double sided sticky tape on the work tops-he'll hate the feeling of it on his paws and when he stops going up there because of it, you can remove it permanently.0

Put an Alsatian on the work surface. that'll keep the pesky b*ggers off.0
