It's hard to keep a cat from the bench isn't it ? I usually shoo them off and clean the benches all the time . I'm sure someone else will post with more ideas . Wondering if your cat has a urine infection . Maybe she's stressed after being lost . I've read people recommend a feliway ? plug in for stressed cats . Has she got a litter tray already .Visit to the vet for a check up ?0

I have only ever had two cats. George was a beautifully well behaved cat and I never caught him on the work surfaces once (bet he did it tho)
William on the other hand had the most disgusting manners. He would not only get up on the sides but would drag his bottom on them too. He would get in the middle of the table during dinner and do his "yoga" whilst cleaning his newly removed bits!:D
He was semi ferral and totally uncontrollable...
Both have since gone to the tuna factory in the sky.:A
Would be interesting to hear if there is a solution!!0 -

I'm sorry but this made me laugh. Salem does his daily "yoga" on the floor in front of the table when we're having breakfast.
I have two cats and have never managed to keep them off the benches yet. Salem's not too bad, if you shoo him away he sits on the floor watching but our newest arrival Gizmo is constantly trying to get on there to have a nosey at what you're doing. If you take and put him on the floor he'll just get back up and seems to think that if he takes a different route you won't notice. He loves to lay or sit on the window sill watching you while you wash up.0 -
If a young healthy cat is regularly performing inappropriate urination it should be seen by a vet in case of health problems that may be causing it.2 angels in heaven :A0

I currently have 2 cats and whilst I would trust Lily on her own in the kitchen, Pixie is still learning (only had her a couple of months) and can't be trusted. When she (Pixie) jumps onto the sides I shout loudly 'get off of there' and she jumps straight down. Doesn't happen often these days.
Though to be honest I only allow the girls in the kitchen when one of us is in there to keep an eye on them otherwise the door is closed and the kitchen is out of bounds.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
I don't want to be a scaremonger and only mentioning this as it is something that recently happened to a friends cat.
Her cat had been missing too , came back they thought fine, started urinating when she previously hadn't , was taken to the vets and it turned out she had been shot and needed major surgery .
I would take her to the vets just to be safe.
As for the benches.....good luck.....shut the door ?Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Echo the others about the weeing, speak to a vet as soon as you can.
I have never been able to stop my cat jumping on the kitchen sides. He finds it the ideal place to survey his kingdom without getting his paws dirty. It also gives him the ideal place to publicly perform cat yoga, my kitchen is at the front of the house. I'm sure the Postman is envious of the leg over the shoulder bum licking position...
I have an open plan kitchen, so no hope of shutting him out. I simply wipe down the sides with cat friendly disinfectant before I cook and keep the sides clear of clutter.Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

For a time we lived in a house which had top kitchen cupboards which didn't go all the way to the ceiling. Merlin's favourite place to sit was on the top of those! Previously he used to sit on top of the fridge freezer which was just at top of head height.
He used to sleep in the kitchen at night, I dare say in his younger days he was probably on the worktops, but would only do it if I wasn't there. A few fairly heavy 'plonking'of him on the floor when he climbed up and a sharp NO if he showed signs of jumping up was enough to stop him doing it whilst I was there.Make £2025 in 2025

I've given up on trying to stop my cat jumping on the kitchen sides, I think nothing short of breaking all 4 of his legs would work! His sister is good as gold, she never jumps on the sides (that I know of), but the devil cat is a nightmare, and will happily jump up when I'm there. Doesn't matter how many times I tell him off, or plonk him on the floor, or spray him with water, he carries on.
Mind you, the stupid creature has fallen in the bath more times than I care to count, and still insists on perching on the edge watching me wash.0 -
One of my cats jumped on my worktops constantly and on occasions he urinated on my oven hob and sprayed on my cooker switch blowing my electrics!
I tried every method possible to stop him, and in the end resorted to barricading my worktop every single evening with whatever I could find, and then having to move it all in the morning and put it all back before I left the house.
I eventually solved this by introducing SSS Cat. A canister that works by releasing a puff of air whenever it senses movement. The first time we used it we heard storm jump on the worktop, a sss went off (my dad describes it as a snake as it went off for him when he was cat sitting!), and then my cat promptly jumped off the worktop.
Best thing I ever bought! Cost about £20 ish from pets at home but I think you can still buy it on Amazon.
I would probably get your cat checked out for any urinary problems, my cat has sprayed for years as he is a very anxious cat and he clashes on occasions with his brother who is the same age. My cat also urinates in small areas in our kitchen, and I have come to the conclusion that he probably gets bouts of cystitis.0
