MSE News: Halifax axes £5 monthly payments to overdrawn current account holders

Looks like I'd better switch two of my DDs back to them then.
Currently my pay goes into a Halifax Reward account, then most of it gets siphoned out into a Santander 1-2-3 account by standing order, so I get the fiver from one plus the interest from the other. The "Pay a bill" feature on each account is set up so I can manually push money either way if the need arises. Dead easy to set up, too, if you're with the Halifax you use the Santander account switcher service then set up a standing order and don't bother filling in the form for your employer (so your pay still goes to the same account as before).
TV Licensing and Cancer Research DDs should do nicely for me, I don't get any cashback for either of those.0 -
two questions i have two reward accounts which one is a joint with other half
1) a standing order of £1000 goes from my non halifax account to reward account then to joint reward account then back to non halifax account do the two transactions count towards anything with reguards the changes? ( i guess not as they are standing orders and not direct debits?)
and
2) can the two direct debits be for the same companies so can i set up say reward account one lottery and health lottery and the same for reward account 2
many thanks in advance0 -

You are correct that standing orders do not count as direct debits.
My understanding of the changes is that each account must have a minimum of two direct debits paid each month to different payees. As long as you pay two different DDs from each account, the accounts will meet the requirements.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Danske Bank in Denmark out of the blue started charging personal customers this week about £5.50 per month.
The concept of paying for a current account there is as much as an anathema to them as to us.
Hopefully it is not a sign of things to come closer to home.0 -
