The sweets was partly because I know I wouldn't manage to make something myself, btw, and I wish people wouldn't give them to me in the first place!!

Yes, definitely, Sue. Most people who know me wouldn't, but there are others.

Did you happen to see 'Nursing the Nation' on TV last evening? I watched it because I used to be a district nurse. Their office is full of boxes of chocolates, which they're given on a regular basis by their patients. One gentleman used to give flowers, but was persuaded not to by his nurse, she can't stop him giving something so he now gives chocolates!! Now flowers, IMHO they're always acceptable.

Before I found wisdom, I became old.

My mum is on her own and would always welcome someone she knows just knocking on her door and calling in for a chat. She is extremely lonely since my dad died and finds it a long day on her own. Why not just pop around for a chat and let her talk about her partner. Costs you nothing but I am sure would mean a lot to her

What did your neighbour used to do in their partnership, did he look after the garden, or clean the car etc (obviously if he has been ill for some time he may not have), but these are the kind of jobs she may need help with. Are you going to clean your windows - you could do theirs too. Pop round with a wee bunch of grapes or some fruit juice for her to take - and just let her know you are there and available.
p.s. thank goodness there are still nice neighbours like you around for us all.
