thanks rb10 for being able to move on from this. I'd like to ask others not to waste their own time discussing it (we know what i'm on about here so no need to pretend). Yes i'm aware of the risks, yes i'm aware it "isn't right", so on that note ............... MOVING ON...........
rb10, thanks for the reply. I'll get her to do this then. Just to confirm - the duplicate & triplicate payments are from the banks end - so LTSB in her case. The actual 'charge' itself from the retailer only ever shows up once.0 -
I am flabbergasted that the mother should be happy with paying more than once for the same bill.
Unless we have only been told part of the story, and the duplicate payments have all been cancelled again.0 -

Your mother? You? Someone else?
Perhaps you are all doing it thinking no one else has.
Its either that or who ever is doing it is clicking the submit button more than once.
Perhaps better to wait and total the monies owed by each party using the card a week before the payment is due.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

I'm incredulous that someone has such a blatant disregard for the security of their accounts and the T+Cs they agreed to.

AHA - - I think you have brought some clarity into it.
The mysterious 'payments' aren't payments from the mother's bank account, for settlement of the bill she incurred on the credit card.
They are duplicates from retailers, that as you say get rectified.
Santander obviously credit cashback for each debit (to the card) from a retailer, but don't remove the cashback when the transaction gets cancelled.
That's all. Who uses the card, who does online banking for what in the family etc is completely irrelevant.
If I were Nine_Lives, I'd just kept schtumm and kept collecting the extra cashback. But as it is, someone from Santander will by now have read this thread and told their programmers to close that loophole.0 -

Look at the quote you used - i said Santander emailed me saying i'd built up an amount of cashback, which they did, in December.
If i don't spend, then i don't make/get any cashback, and so the balance stays at £0.00 (let's ignore the £24per year fee before you want to get REALLY picky, as i'm trying to make this very simple for you to understand).
The card gets used, it gets paid off on the days it's used, so it constantly has a £0.00 balance.
Month 1 passes by - i get let's say £10 cashback. My balance now reads -£10.00 (minus ten pounds) - so i'm £10 in credit. This continues. I spend, i pay off, the balance reads -£10, another £10 cashback earned at the end of month 2 so the balance is now -£20.
So you get to december with -£110.
However, if every month you overpaid (i.e. sent double payments) by £10, then at the end of month 1 the balance would actually read -£20, at the end of month 2 it'd read -£30 and so on.
Which is exactly what i said - the more you send to the card, the more it (the balance) goes into the minus.

No, I still don't really have a clue what's going on here. The amount of cashback is apparently an issue; I have no idea why.

My best guess for what its worth (bet the OP says I'm not reading right :cool:)
Is that mum is spending using his card. Mum then goes home and login to internet banking and transfers said amount over.
But that some of these transfers are duplicated....
Hence my question as to who was actually doing this as OP said several people access IB. Note to OP read the replies....
I can assure you it's only being clicked once. You enter the password & click submit - once. I can guarantee it was clicked - only once per payment.
So if it is not you doing it how can you be certain. That refresh has not been clicked, or submit more than once, in error?
As a aside Op. On a credit card when you spend it goes into - (minus) when you pay it off in full you have a zero balance. If they add cash back that would give you a + (positive) balance.
As such could you not use this cashback as part payment off the next month ? Or is it a totally seperate thing. ( do not have a 123 acc)
Nine lives what we need is the info spelling out in a clear manner....
You should never of stated that other people use your card as people such as me who deal with fraud on a daily basis... Really go off on one at people that are that silly to believe that it wont effect them.
What if you mother lost the card, or had her purse stolen just after using hte card in a shop. The fraudster then goes to a ATM and takes cash....
Do you really want to leave not only yourself, but also put a trusted person in a position such as that. All for the sake of a few quid...Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
