Need help from Laptop experts please.
I waited for the new year to see if prices change and settle but I'm still not up to date with laptops.
I have narrowed down to two brands: Asus and Lenovo. Only because they topped the charts for reliability which is my main priority.
After reading many threads, I have figured this is the combination I should be looking for (or is this all outdated now?):
i5
Windows 7
Asus (Lenovo came later)
Is there any reason why this one wouldn't be good? http://www.ebuyer.com/414648-asus-a53e-laptop-a53e-sx2225s

Got it. Reading more about it.
I'm not sure why I dislike dell. but I do dislike them. I think it's because we used to have one years ago.
Should the whole lenovo/asus reliability thing be ignored for a cheaper dell laptop? I guess I need to understand a little more why I should go for dell over other brands.Cup of Tea? :coffee:0 -
there's an element of pot luck to any brand, the name on the front doesn't really give an indication of how reliable it's going to be. What was wrong with your Dell?
This is a snapshot, but it's years old, quite a few brands suffered from the same sort of failures, due to battery/capacitor/overheating/solder/gpu problems which weren't limited to one brand - ie the same hard disk/battery/gpu could be in many laptops

I don't think anything was wrong with the dell. It was really heavy though and I don't really hear about dell laptops in comparison to other brands.
I see the dell has a better camera, but I probably won't use it at all. I guess I should compare the weight of the laptops as I will be travelling with it within the UK.Cup of Tea? :coffee:0 -

It's difficult with all the different views. On another website a different computer tech person said in all their time of fixing laptops, they found Asus to be the better brand generally and linked to another website. Lol.
I've had a look at the dell and it's Windows 8 right? I would much prefer Windows 7.Cup of Tea? :coffee:0 -
anything recently built is going to be W8, but W7 is still available on older stock

Do you suggest Windows 8 then? I've had a look in store and I find it awful. Never liked the look even on phones.
At the end of the day the laptop will be used for browsing mainly. But I do video editing so I need it to be able to support that. So many reviews are against Windows 8 though.Cup of Tea? :coffee:0
