Find your self a rottie of a solicitor.

You may also find that he has shot himself in the foot. When my maternal nan died, my parents had been separated for 2 years. What upset my mum was the fact that his solicitor requested - and got - details of what was left to my mum in my nan's will and that this was taken into account when it came to the financial settlement.

You need a solicitor who deals with matrimonials. Many, many years ago i worked for a solicitor who dealt with matrimonials and she was very thorough.

Make him wait. He seems a bit too impatient to me.

And the question you have to ask yourself is why?

  • Look at it this way: whatever you may have lost of the initial deposit you put into the house could be more than compensated for by that inheritance of his. And a decent share of his pension-pot. Any money you spend on a rottie of a solicitor to secure your future will be money well-spent in my opinion.

Take as long as you like to make any decisions about the settlement. Then add another year on top. Make him sweat

I am so glad you are back in touch with your stepson and that he is being supportive. None of this is his fault and you've been a part of his life for the majority of it.
