    OP,

Do you refer to the "Computer Misuse Act of 1990"?

Are they charging her with "Unauthorized Modification of Computer Material".?

Dear Keith - for people to be able to advise anyone, they have to be able to read the opening post and be able to make sense out of what they read.

Your opening post is close to impossible to read with understanding. Simples.

It appears that she has changed the password on the company website preventing the boss from accessing it prior to leaving due to not being paid.

Might be an offence under the computer misuse act?
"s36 Unauthorised acts with intent to impair operation of computer, etc"
  • I'm not sure why the police are involved but if, as you say, your wife did not want the website to go live because of copyright issues, it might be worth getting in touch with the owner of the image and let them know their images are being used without their permission.
They may then persue the business owner themselves. Breaching copyright is very serious
There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count and those who can't.

The issue seems to be that a web site belonging to employer got password protected by an employee and they forgot to put the password on a Post-it attatched to the screen or to tell the employer the password before leaving due to non payment of wages.

    Keith,

What is your wife being charged with? - Several people have asked yet you refuse to actually answer.

Is it a breach of the computer misuse act? I suspect you're going to miraculously say yes to that now and if you do that only confirms you're a troll because you've waited for me to give you the relevant law instead of quoting it earlier yourself.

In that case isn't it a civil matter rather than a criminal one?

No expert in the area of denying people access to their computer systems.

I think that it is very serious issue and could well be covered by some criminal legislation.

The boss could have just asked, but if the history is true they don't seem to do what many would consider normal/rational like pay people.

    [speculation]
there may have been words suggesting that they would leave if not paid, not divulging the password, that would change it to blackmail very serious indeed.
    [/speculation]

What if I changed the locks on YOUR house and did not give you a key.
