I don't have 2 SIM cards with the same number! I've 1 SIM card and 1 account with Orange, which is due to expire in December 2014. But for some reason Orange have closed this account! Even when I log in to my account online it states the my account no longer exists! Have I basically got a Samsung S3 for free??0

Lets see if i have this right the account Orange as shut down does not run out to Dec 2014 if its that case then they will bill you for the remanding months left on that account
so it sounds like you were trying to upgrade before your contract had run out its a wonder Orange didn't tell you it was to early to upgrade
Orange will come after you for the remanding months left on the contract
So it sounds like you are going to have to pay 2 contracts
the new one and the old one
What you did was called an early termination which will cost you.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect. 0 0

I think you are reading this wrong, my contract was up for renewal so I upgraded through P4U on a 24 month deal. Now this contract has been cancelled by Orange, not by me! I have no other contract with them.0

In the nicest way possible, your posts are not very clear. People are interpreting them in the best way possible. For example, your post earlier reads as though you have a new SIM in your new phone which is working. But that's contradicted by later posts.
My guess is that because you had a PAC, request to leave Orange and an upgrade instructed at the same time.Things have got muddled and the contract canceled.0

Lets see if I can get this in order.- You called Orange and asked for a better deal and got nothing special. You asked to Cancel and asked for a PAC code. (Lets call this Number 1 or N1)
 - You Saw a deal in P4U and took that up. Lets call this N2.
 - You called Orange to cancel the PAC on N1
 - You keep using N1.
 - Phone for N2 arrives with new sim, You put sim in it, turn it on and start using N2. Your number moces to the new phone.
 - New years eve phone stops working (Not sure if it's N1 or N2).

As you mentioned you have the new sim card (N2) with the old number so it sounds like P4U did an upgrade (as you mentioned the letter from Orange) rather than an offer as a new customer.
If that seems to be the right order then I think what happened is...
When you ask for a PAC code it cancels any cancellation.
When you called to cancel the PAC request it looks like the contract cancellation came back into effect, so as you phoned to cancel the PAC code *AFTER* the upgrade you have effectivly cancelled the contract after the upgrade has happened.
You are likely to be hit with a big fee somewhere along the line, namely two years worth of line rental. I know it's a pain but keep calling Orange to get to the bottom of this, don't wait for a call back keep trying.0

Best thing to do is go to p4u and complain, they will have the most interest in sorting it out because they will be chasing there commission and are also the ones who have stood the cost of the handset.0
