care home cost

Hi

I wonder if anyone here has any advice.

My partner father has Dementia. he is 91 and been in hospital since September. Her Mother is 86.

Today we have been advised that the hospital will not release him as they do not feel that partners mum can look after him overnight.

Between them they own a modest two bedroom terrace worth around 75k.

My partners mum is now convinced she has to sell her home to pay for her husbands care.

There income is State pension each and the partner father receives 10k per annum from a private pension.

Savings are modest in the hundreds.

What options are there? The bootm line is , can a forced home sale be invoked upon them.

No, not as long as Mother remains in the home: if she also needs residential care then the situation changes.

Difficult time for mother, but there is advice available from Counsel and Care, and Age UK. Also worth noting that Father may be entitled to NHS Continuing Care - which means the NHS pay without taking his means into consideration. It's not easy, but there are several threads about it on the over 50s board.
