In my previous life i was a mgr in catering, and had to cover another restaurant, - booked a taxi to get me to the station (5 mins away) booked with 20 mins to spare and explained what time the train was going...
The taxi was 30 mins late - missed the train, the next one wasn't till 6am. I ended up kicking up a fuss and got driven the 40mile journey home by the taxi firm at there expense!
xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

they'll slag off railway companies from morning til night, but your taxi company is apparently blameless...
if you have the facebook evidence of the booking, and the booking was not correctly fulfilled, then contact your local newspaper - the story will be very cheap for them to tell...
they certainly areusually the ones with strange user names .
OP IMO you have case for a refund of the taxi fare but thats all. 18 mins is not enough leeway especially in the morning rush hour0 -

I wouldn't even be that nice, however our control always ask the time of the train to avoid things like this happening.
We have a system that allows time to get there, plus 25 minutes if the destination is put in, and monitors traffic for us. They're expensive, but I don't know if Geordie's company uses a similar system (about £20k for 50 units + 4 office units)

although there's no legal obligation, I think common sense could expect both situations to be treated similarly - but as I said in my previous post, this really means that in both cases you could perhaps expect a refund of the fare paid, but not any compensation for 'consequential loss'.
So in the case of the taxi - the taxi was late, which caused the OP to miss the train. They could claim the taxi fare back, but not the cost of the train tickets.
And for a similar situation on a train - for example, catching a train to an airport for a flight - if the train was sufficiently delayed, you could claim a refund for the train fare, but not for an additional costs associated with missing the flight.0 -

sound similar. we have a gps based system linked to a constant updating traffic system which gives alternate route info and timesIf you can't buy them with part used train tickets, he won't have it.
bad use of part used train tickets. as return tickets r normally valid for a month i use those late train website to find out when a service over the route is late by over 30 mins then claim some compo. better value for ur money

if you had booked a taxi to a train station then it is pretty obvious that time constraints would apply. As long as you factored in the time allowance which the firm usually makes for getting you to a train on time the you are entitled to point out to them that they failed in the contract which they agreed to. However if you booked the taxi without saying where you were going or without factoring the suggested amount of time then they can't really be expected to have responsibility for getting you to a place by a time. they have only failed in collecting you from a place at an agreed time, so you may get the fare back for the taxi
Basically, if an arrival time wasn't part of the contract then I don't see how you can claim for anything apart from possibly that taxi fare.0 -
Just thought I'd give an update to this thread - I was given the full price of the ticket as a refund by the Taxi company along with receiving very sincere apologies for the hassle caused and the slow response by the manager.
Good result I think!
