Good luck. Bikes from Argos have been called BSO's by many and have a life expectancy of about 2 months.

You can only try. They should repair it under warranty.

With any cycle brought boxed, it needs to be properly set-up when assembled by the buyer. Furthermore the reason that your gears are now failing to engage is that the cables have stretched, so need to be adjusted to take up the slack. Same applies to your brake cables.

Bought my bike from a local bike shop. It included a free service, to be carried out up to 3 months after purchase. This was to adjust cables etc as the previous poster highlighted. Hopefully his advice will sort out your issues with your bike.

It does not do that on its own, bend it back and be careful where you put it down in future !!

My Giant MTB has a rear derailleur guard fitted as standard, maybe cheap bikes don't have them.
Either way, if you must lie your bike down, do it on the left side so that the chain and gears are uppermost.

We bought as bike from there a couple of years ago, and hubby put it together. He's pretty bike savvy, living in a village as a child, and building loads of BMXs and other bikes, and all he had to do was put the wheels on and adjust the seat etc. Our son has never been able to get the gears to work properly though, the gear change is so stiff, and of he can change it while moving, the gears don't engage properly. Hubby thinks the gears are slightly warped, but as we originally thought it was a problem with the child rather than the bike, we left it too long to take back.
