Id spend the money on updating the gas central heating system and getting free cavity wall and loft insulation. Check out the homepage here, you may just still be able to get this freebie

Yeb weird house - big chimney - basically the house is on a slope with the front door at ground level , you can go down into the basement which has a spare bathroom etc and opens onto the garage at the back of the house - at the bottom of the slope. The rooms inside the house are 10 foot high floor to ceiling, The attic is high and the chinmey stacks rise about 3 meters abouve the roof - tons of character though;)

20m tall !!, 6 stories + attic, that is a scaffolding or cherry picker job so that needs adding to the install cost.

The stove has been in since April and the central heating has been used very little since then ( maybe 1 hour before getting up in the morning ) sometimes the room with the stove gets a little too hot but thats OK as we can leave the door open and the heat travels up to the first floor landing. Im paying £65 / load for fuel which lasts about 6 weeks. Ive put an eco fan on tyop of the stove and this helps to circulate the warm air and kind of forces you to use less fuel on in the stove. Ive discovered that if we load the stove at about 8pm and leave the lounge door open at bed time this keeps the house reasonably warn through the night ( need to open windows on a mild night!!) - all in all happy with stove ++ you cant beat sitting with the lights dimmed, real flames and a good malt at the end of the day - priceless:beer:

I agree that a stove isn't always cheaper (although if you are rural and have to use oil CH, it can be), but it is very, very nice on the lifestyle choice side! I sit and watch it rather than the TV, lol!

  • Hi Size66,

Glad to hear you've been enjoying the stove and heating costs have dropped a bit too, what size stove did you end up going for? What model/ make?

    Thanks!
