tmobile/vodafone unlocking phones?

I'm looking at getting a nokia 6300 from either phonebox direct or CNM. I want to use my orange sim card on it but all the 12 month free deals are either on vodafone or tmobile. Does anyone know if I would be able to get one of these contracts and get an unlock code from the network?

Someone told me tmobile charge £15 and you have to have had the phone for at least a month, could someone confirm this and whether vodafone have similar requirements?

thanks

When you take out a contract it is not likely they will give you the unlock code after one month as the phone is the property of the network until the contract length is up. i doubt they will give it you after 1 month. All networks have the same policy, the only supplier I know where the phone is already unlocked is the CPW.

Anyone able to confirm that this is definetly the case?

Do BMP, PBD, TMO etc. all come locked to their original network?
  • I recently got an N95 on a 12 month contract with T-Mobile. I called T-Mobile CS the day after I got the phone to add web 'n' walk to my package - the CS lady was very helpfull and gave me the first month free:D I also asked about unlocking the phone as I travel abroad a lot and want to use local sim cards - the CS lady told me that I cannot get the phone unlocked within the first month but she will ring me mid May and get it unlocked - cost will be £15.00.
So - I can't confirm yet but I'm hopefull - I'll wait to see if she rings or not.

I don't think the 6300 can be unlocked by code but check the unlocking thread in this forum for more info.
