Frozen berries etc.

Agree with pre-chopped frozen stuff being a time and money saver. Great for peppers, but also the diced onions are ace if you're using them in cooking.
Only thing I would say with those though are that they will produce water as they defrost, so if cooking straight from frozen account for the additional water (usually not a problem).0 -
I often buy frozen mixed berries and go for the cheapest ones in the supermarket, we use them in smoothies especially when I have brown bananas to use up - few handfuls of berries, a ripe (or over ripe) banana, glass of apple juice and a tablespoon of yogurt (natural or flavoured) makes a lovely breakfast smoothie. They are also good added to a crumble or to porridge.
I also buy frozen spinach and mainly use it in curries, when I am low on food I do a curry with frozen spinach and a can of chick peas. We like the frozen baby sweetcorns for stir fries but they can be hard to find, my kids like the frozen corn on the cob. Frozen peppers would be handy, I will give them a go.0 -
there is a very famous recipe from the Ivy restaurant in London - frozen berries covered in white chocolate sauce, it is fantastic, I used to make it in a previous life.
I work part time in a supermarket and we sell a lot of frozen berries, which I had really thought of until I came across this post.0 -

I buy whole leaf spinach - great for adding to curries or pasta. Obvously peas and sweetcorn and also broad beans and soya beans.
I buy frozen blueberries fr baking, raspberries and cherries if I can find them. Sainsburys do 2 for £4 on frozen fruit so I stock up if they send me a good voucherPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

if you buy fresh blueberrries, you can do this - coat in greek yoghurt, then freeze http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2012/03/frozen-yogurt-covered-blueberry-bites.html0

Recap on the frozen salmon.
Used it yesterday to make a fish pie. I must say it didn't look or indeed taste as good as the fresh stuff so won't be buying that again. Still you live and learn.
Another thing that worried me, I make enough for 2 pies and freeze one normally and I am hesitant about getting frozen fish, cooking it, then re-freezing.
Does anyone know if it is safe to re-freeze fish or meat that has been formerly frozen then cooked then re-frozen again?0 -
I like to use defrosted frozen berries in porridge or with yoghurt and muesli.
The only veg I don't use frozen are mushrooms and onions as I know I will use a pack up in a week. I tend to buy fresh potatoes, then parboil/mash/bake in jackets and freeze so they don't end up sprouting before I use them.
I've saved loads this way and never throw out limp, way past its best veg like I used to.
I use frozen white fish in fish pies or fish cakes, not as keen on frozen fish just cooked, can be quite bland.
I never buy frozen meat but will buy fresh meat and freeze it.
givememoney - someone told me as long as the meat/fish has reached boiling point it's fine to refreeze. I use frozen fish to make 2 fish pies and always freeze one to reheat at a later date and I've never been ill from it0 -

if you buy & defrost frozen uncooked meat/fish, then cook it, it's safe then to freeze as cooked food.0 -

Try the Total o% Greek yogurt with the frozen berries. You might need to add a sprinkle of sweetener, (or a dollop of honey if not on SW). I didn't even wait for them to defrost, just drop the fruit and sweetener and stir and you end up with something like a frozen yogurt dessert.0
