Hormonal at 9!!

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice on my daughter.... She's 9 and we've noticed for the past 3 or 4 months that she's started to get spotty and moody, bursts in to tears for no reason and gets really quite upset over silly things.

She eats really well and I mean REALLY well, one of the only kids I know that asks for 4ths and 5ths of veggies, she's got no problems at school and loves it and is generally a happy and bright little girl. I'm sure the moods and outbursts are just hormonal, although she seems so young....or am I being really nieve here?

For the past 2 months these episodes have seemed to tie in with my cycle. Is there anything that I can give her vitamin wise that is going to help her stay a little calmer and help her skin....... my baby's growing up. .and I'm not sure I'm ready!!

I remember reading somewhere about target weight for the trigger of puberty being around 7 and a half stone....she's a long way off that.

Any advice would be great.....Thanks!

It might be that her period has started or about to start, Im no expert being a man, but I have herd that girls can start at early ages. Have you tryed having a chat to her. Also Ive found this guide here: http://www.cyh.com/HealthTopics/HealthTopicDetails.aspx?p=240&np=297&id=2068

    A little from this site:

    When do periods start?
The start of periods can be anywhere between the ages 9-16 or even earlier or later. Girls start having periods at different times depending on how quickly they are growing. Almost everyone starts having periods at a time which is 'normal' for them. Once you get your period, it may take quite a long time for your body to adjust (maybe up to a year until your period cycle is regular), but most women eventually get into a regular pattern. It is a good idea to keep track of when your period is due, maybe on a calender. This will tell you when to be ready for your period. If the pattern changes and you have been sexually active, it may mean you are pregnant. It can also mean there are other health problems.

    Hope this helps.
    Kind Regards

Girls can be quite moody anyway, even at about 5 or 6! Were you an early starter? In my experience (I have a sister 18 months older than me, she has 2 girls in their twenties and I have two teenage daughters) timing seems to be hereditary, so if you were an early starter, then she may well be.

If you are worried or just want more info you can talk to your Health Visitor. Even though they don't keep in regular contact post 5 or so, mine was always very helpful with concerns about children older than that.

It may be puberty kicking in, or it may just be her picking up on your moods! It is well known that women living together tend to adopt the same 'rhythm'.

Thanks for that -- I didn't think about the health visitor -- tend to forget they are there to help past the baby stages. Don't want to take up valuable doctors appointments to sit and disscuss something that's very trivial to anyone but us so I shall give the health visitor a call. Thanks again :)

My step daughter was 10 when she went through it all... really difficult, as it has been mentioned, you really do think that they are still so young to be going through it.

All you can do is be there when they need a hug xx

Once heard that the hormones they inject chickens with can cause early puberty, but I guess that should not happen in the UK.

Can early puberty not also stunt your growth, by stopping long bones from growing?

What if there is a real hormonal problem? Best to see the doctor to get it checked it out. He can only cause of you of being 'hormonal' yourself for approaching him!

I remember when I was at primary school in the early eighties :o there were sani-bins in the girls loos, and a couple of girls who used them.

Like you say, seems like a baby!
