Cancelling my bid after I've won an auction

Options
How do I cancel my bid after the auction has finished. The higher bidder retracted their bid just before the end, making me the highest bidder.
The seller has also asked me to send payment to another email address which I don't want ro do.

Simple answer is you can't. You can't be made to pay of course so it is worth asking the seller just to cancel- especially if they are a business seller, but you do risk a non paying bidder strike.

That's odd, the highest bidder retracting bid at last minute. Anyway, like soolin says, you bid what you were willing to pay and you ended up winning so you should pay. It drove me mad before Xmas the amount of people winning and then deciding they didn't want it after all!! Wastes sellers time, ruins auctions and seller has to go through hassle of trying to get the fees they paid , when you won , back from ebay.
If you do decide you don't want it anymore, which I find a bit naughty really then at least tell the seller straight away.

    How odd indeed.
Bid retraction a***a placed yesterday then they rebid just before the end of the auction just below my max bid.
On their bid history details. Total bids 4, items bid on 4, bid activity with this seller 100%.
    Amazing coincidence.

But if you bid what you wanted to pay for it, and you won it, why do you want to cancel it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Sounds a lot like shill bidding to me, in which case I definitely wouldn't be paying.

I'm also a bit unsure about sending payment to a random emal address rather than using ebay checkout.

That's not a problem as long as you pay for named goods. It is looking rather like a shill bid though and you could try asking eBay whether they will remove any strike that the seller may gve you.

Retracting bids and a seller not wanting payment via eBay checkout certainly ring alarm bells.

You could message the seller and state that last minute bid retraction and instructions to pay outside of eBay deeply concerned you, so you contacted eBay & the forum for advice.

In reply the events you described raised concerns and the suggestion was that you ask for a mutual cancellation.

I don't mind paying if its all above board. But a mystery bidder retracts his bid at the last minute then places a new bid just below my max, costing me an extra £12. And in the last 30 days they have only bid with this seller.
    Too suspicious for me.

In overbidding they revealed your maximum bid by overshooting it, then retracted and placed a new bid which they now knew would be just beneath your revealed maximum bid.

No genuine bidder would indulge in this kind of activity just losing auctions of just one seller. Sounds a pretty clear case of shill bidding.
