If a buyer gets outbid they may move on and bid for a similar/same item from another seller. The 1st unexpected bid retraction may cause a buyer to win 2 items.

Maybe eBay should add an option that if you have been outbid and gone on to win the same item elsewhere, you can enter the item number for eBay to take into consideration that you have purchased elsewhere and not want the original item once you have been outbid.
Obviously this is common sense and eBay and common sense aren't very often used in the same sentence0 -

That would rely on some kind of automated recognition that the two items were identical, which in turn relies on every seller identifying exactly the same item in the same way.
Unless every seller used identical listings for everything, I don't think it would be practical. Besides, if you wanted two of something, once you won one, presumably all subsequent bids would be blocked."The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.
