Sri Lanka - Best Currency

Hi, I'm travelling to Sri Lanka at the end of the month and I understand you can only take a small amount of the local currency with you. Do you think it is best to take sterling to change when there or better to take US dollars. Any advice would be great. I am also taking a Halifax clarity card.

I have several Sri Lankan friends and they say it's best to bring Sterling cash (clean unmarked notes). That way, you can get the best rate for Sri Lankan Rupees. Whereabouts are you going to?0
