  • Well done lilymay! It's a hard one to break, nail biting! Keep at it and you'll have gorgeous nails in no time :)

I've stopped biting mine around 9 months now and they're still yellow-y :( I keep them painted most of the time, but always do a base coat so as not to discolour them further.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

    That's a bit depressing :(

It is :( I hate how they look 'dirty' all the time even when I've scrubbed them.

I've got this horrible smelling/horrible tasting sally hanson top coat nail varnish which is clear.

I paint my nails with that every couple of days and also go over the top slightly (which apparently makes nail varnish last longer). It tastes vial! Everytime I attempt to bite my nails I don't succeed. Blugh.

EDIT: Just realised this was an update thread. Oh Well.
  • I used to bite my nails all the time. Then one day, when I was about 20, my friends and (now) ex decided to take it upon themselves to shout at me or give me a whack around the head whenever I even thought about biting them. After a week or so I stopped biting my nails, although I still used to file off the rough edges with my teeth from time to time when no one was looking. However, I have been working in a home for mentally ill people for the past year and most of our service users, as much as I love them, have absolutely appalling personal hygiene so that has firmly put an end to me putting my fingers anywhere near my mouth _pale_

Just wanted to do a second update whilst I'm on MSE. This is what my nails look like now after having just been and had my first ever manicure. They are very brittle and the nail is very thin, but they look infinitely better than they did. I wish I'd had a before and after shot.

    Well done lily!

I stopped biting in my early 20s due to just being pig sick of everyone else having beautiful long nails and me having none.

I couldn't wear nail polish with my job, so I actually ended up cutting Sellotape to size and sticking it on the nails to change the texture :)

Now they sometimes get to nearly an inch long before I cut them :)

I bit mine from being very little and suddenly decided to stop one day.. so I did..

I chew the skin around my nails, my knuckles, any bit of dry skin on my hands .. but my nails look pretty. I now have acrylic coatings on most of them.. with the odd tip when I smash one off but they are so much nicer.

Acrylic or gel nails are on with very short nails, I've done some awful injuries to mine and slapped a tip on and we're good to go. Mine are still in pretty good shape under the acrylic.

They are also great for picking your nose.. that can be your new disgusting habit!

Lily.. they look lovely! Well done you!

(currently gnawing in inside of the 3rd knuckle on my middle finger.. my right thumb is bleeding and there is a chewed bit on my left index finger too)
