Cheapest Sky HD package

Am I right in saying that the cheapest HD package (without haggling with Sky - I've done that in the past 6 months anyway!) is Sky Entertainment at £21.50 plus the HD package at £10 ie. £31.50?
That seems an awful lot!
Lower than that, is Freesat from Sky the only option? Presumably you then lose HD and Sky plus functionality?
I'm looking at the cheapest basic package I can get with HD and Sky plus.
Thanks!

You are correct. What you will get with a basic non HD sub are the HD channels from the BBC, ITV1, and channel 4.
I'll leave the offers/haggling route advise to others with more experiance. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

You could leave Sky and go with Freesat (not Freesat from Sky):
http://www.freesat.co.uk/
New box required (£150), but it'll do much the same as Sky Plus (record, series link etc), example on Argos link:

HD channels (BBC x 2, ITV1, C4)--- Warning: Grumpy Old Man in Training ---0 -
Yep, unless you're in love with your Sky box, replace it with a Freesat box. Humax Foxsat HDR is generally regarded as the best on here. £250 brand spanking new but can be had for less I'm sure, especially refurbed in the Humax store. Plugs in exactly the same way as the Sky box.0

Not only is that Argos linked box not Freesat (as above) it's not HD either.0 -
I'm a bit confused by the array of Humax boxes out there.
Which is the latest Fresat model?0 -
Get a blue sky card from ebay and you may retain free to air hd and sky+.0

WRONG! Waste of £25 (maybe less on eBay) for OP as they already have a susbscriber card. Once the subscription stops, they have freesatfromsky, no new card needed.Get a blue sky card from ebay and you may retain free to air hd and sky+.0 -

Indeed that costs £10.25 ish / month. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Correct.But freesatfromsky doesn't allow recording?
Correct.Indeed that costs £10.25 ish / month.
You already have a subscription card. When you cancel your sub, this essentially becomes a freesatfromsky card. No recording. You can have recording added to this card. £25 is a waste of money (that Sky are quite happy to take off you) if you already have a card.
IMO paying £10.25 a month for the privilege of recording is a waste too. You could have a Freesat HD recorder for less than 2 years' subscription.0
