Tried to see this film last night but it was sold out so we saw Life of Pi instead which was absolutely BRILLIANT.

Thanks for the thumbs up on this film. I have been thinking of going to see it.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I saw "The Pianist " like 3 times, great film and Adrian Brody really deserved that Oscar for his performance !!:j:T

I didn't know he won an Oscar for it. It was a totally brilliant film and I wish I knew his story sooner.....

I am hoping I will feel the same way when I go and see the film. I think few people, myself included, can truly appreciate the enormity of this disaster. I have watched the documentaries over the years, on when the tsunami struck but it still doesn't hit home with me quite how awful it all was. I would like to understand it more and hope this film will give me an informed perspective.

I can promise you, you would be on a journey that will awaken questions and thoughts you never had before, about you and about humankind in general..:T
I find that, with documentaries, while informative, you dont experience the same pain, catharsis, journey, but with a film like this, that is based on a true survival story, you can't help but to be taken on an emotional journey that does indeed change your perspective on how you view many things.

This film has given me a truer insight of the Tsunami than any other related documentary would

Hope it does the same with you :)

I'm a self confessed geography geek, and can't wait to go and see this film!

As to those who think it's too soon, were any of these too soon after 9/11?

    United 93 (2006)
    World Trade Center (2006)
    Four Lions (2010)
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011)

The mass media can help to inform, inspire and educate about the enormity of these events, and hopefully help other people avoid becoming victims, or raise awareness of such events.

I always used to think, in extreme situations like this one, it would always be each man for their own, but the film has opened my eyes so much as to the greatness man can rise to, in helping others in tragedies like this..:(

On another note, I went to see this film with my Norwegian friend, and we were discussing human feats in tragedies, and he shared a story he had read in his local newspapers when the shootings occurred in Norway..

When the shooting started and people were running for their lives towards the sea and swimming for their lives as well, amidst the bullets flying around.. Some people camping on the other side of the island, hearing the shooting and seeing people desperatly running towards the sea, they took their own boats and went midsea to meet them, they were literally putting themselves from a place of safety to the line of fire to try and save some people swimming in the sea..
They just couldnt just witness seeing the horror and not do anything, i guess it is like Maria says to her son in the sea " even if it is the last thing we do.. "

Hi Tenke,Thanks for sharing. Yes i loved the part when those people from the village covered Maria up and she was saying Thank you.

We are one huge human family and i would like to think that i would do the same. :)

Ive just got home from watching Life of Pi with my son, niece and nephew. Neice fell asleep (shes 9) nephew said it was 'Ok but a bit boring' and I couldn't wait for it to finish. I thought it was awful. A case of all the best bits being in the trailor.

    Or in the book.

  • Anyone complaining about this film who have watched the likes of Schindler's List, Days of Glory, Saving Private Ryan etc. Jeez even Titanic! Massive hypocrites.

Who's to say what an acceptable length of time is before a film based on true events is released? Just because the above mentioned happened many more years ago doesn't make them any less harrowing for the survivors and families of the dead.

I completely agree with you. I think it is a good thing to go and see films like this and appreicate what people have been through.

I went to see Schindlers List when it first came out. It shocked me and moved me deeply. I am glad that I saw it though. I have a huge amount of interest of that time in history and have visited the Belsen memorial site, Auschwitz and been to Amsterdam to Anne Franks house.

Her diary is incredible and gives you a real insight into what people went through. However if you left your knowledge and understanding of the situation she was in at the end of her diary you would be missing the bigger picture. By seeing films like Schindlers list and visiting the above mentioned places you really appreciate what people suffered and in some cases managed to survive.

I will be going to watch the film and will make my mind up about it once I have seen it.

Beyond anything that might have been in that film, the constant TV advertising with a Coldplay soundtrack was extremely off putting.

We saw United 93 in the cinema. Through the trailers a perfectly normal cinema experience, when the film began from the very first second, silence and tension so thick you could touch it. There is no way anyone in the room didn't feel the enormity and horror of the situation, and there was the utmost respect for the fact that it had happened in our recent lifetime to people whose families were still alive.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
