Mobile phone insurance

I have just changed my 02 PAYG ancient Nokia to a contract HTC Desire X from 02 and should take delivery tomorrow.

During the process of placing my order I didn't bother ticking the insurance box.. However i have just had an adviser on the phone strongly recommending I take out 02 insurance at £6 per month. I am a relatively low user so my actual contract for calls/texts etc is only going to be £10.50 per month. This means the insurance will increase my monthly payments by more than half.

Would you say insurance is a must? I might say that in 10 years I have neither lost nor damaged a mobile phone.

You might find you have cover via your home ins. Or if you have a paid for bank acc.
I'm on the same contract as you. And declined the ins option.

its not just the loss of the phone, what if its stolen and a bill is run up prior to you informing the network. Your insurance would cover this also.
If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...

A similar thread: Contract Phone- is Insurance necessary??

You call him 'adviser'... It was in fact a salesman earning commission for every policy he sells.

Unless you are very lazy you can protect your sim with a PIN and your phone with a PIN/pattern instead of paying £6 every month.

Thanks for your advice and links. I have spent some time researching the links. I have actually logged into my 02 account and low and behold they have a premium charge of £7.50 per month listed. I have just contacted them and cancelled the whole policy. I am looking at my house insurance plus some of the other names given in the links. I know i can get a much better deal.

Added - just received a confirmation email from 02 saying insurance has been cancelled.
