                    Hello
I've recently signed on for job seekers allowance and am entitled to housing benefit. I'm currently renting a room privately and pay them by bank transfer each week which ive done for last 8 weeks whilst working. When I asked for a letter confirming I live there to give to job centre to get my housing benefit they didn't want to be involved with benefit claims and refused and want payments as normal. I don't have a rent agreement as it was through an advert on spareroom.co.uk. It sounds suspicious to me and I'm not going to be able to pay the rent so they will deduct from my deposit and then want payments as usual which then leaves me out of pocket as housing benefit should pay it not me. What do I do?! It sounds suspicious to me why don't they want to get involved with dss they are going to get the same amount of money!

            Landlord on benefits themselves?
Landlord earning more than the rent a room scheme allows and not declaring it?
Landlord responsible for council tax and claiming single person discount?
Any more reasons?:footie: Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. 0 0

Agreed, sounds odd: Does landlord live in the same building?? What do (if any..) other people renting in the place do...
Unfortunately as far as I know a landlord can't be forced to co-operate with HB/LHA claims.. but, depending on your answers to the above you may be able to get something in writing....
Bet he's fiddling something, tax most likely...
 Best regards...0

You a lodger, not a tenant, and the landlord can evict you very easily... see...
 http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/renting_and_leasehold/sharing_and_subletting/lodgers
Do they own the place or are they perhaps renting it - and if so from private landlord or council???
As far as I know you are not entitled to a written agreement...
Suggest you write to HB/LHA, explain position, and that you can prove payments etc etc & perhaps mail to you at the place?? This can't be the 1st time this issue has come up with them...
 Best regards.., sorry0

            You are a lodger.
Perhaps their insurance won't allow DSS?
How much are you paying for your room each month?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0

Hire a better hoover or borrow one from elsewhere. A Dyson with the pet hair attachments will pick hair up.So frustrating, just spoke to them again and said i cant afford it ill move back in with my parents, now they won't give my deposit back either they said my dogs (which they agreed to have there) have left hair and it won't Hoover up so will have to replace the carpet! I've offered to have professionals in its on offer in groupon for carpet cleaning but they said its beyond cleaning, I have two short haired dogs they shed about 2 hairs a year!! I think they are just using it as an excuse to not give back the deposit!
 I pay £60/week0

Take lots of pictures in as high a resolution and highest quality you can. Not mobile phone pictures you'll need a proper digital camera.
