SF's road to mortgage freedom!

Ed, have been reading on a few threads about having an IO mortgage, bunging the difference into a SIPP to get the 20% (or 40%) tax relief, bung in more over the years and use the lump sum to pay off the mortgage. How do you feel about that? Probably not really an option now as IO mortgages hard to get.
I think it's a cracking idea, was one of the threads featuring jamesd? I always enjoy his posts, thought provoking stuff
Part IO mortgages look reasonably common still, for 50% of value or less.
I think an offset will be our next big financial adventure...0 -
Monday is over :j :j
Had a NSD today, first one of the week. We've had chicken kievs with salad for tea, followed by cinnamon apple crumble and custard, nom nom nom  there is one portion of crumble left which I'll take for lunch tomorrow, which will be a nice treat in the middle of the day.
Mortgage/OP wise, no movement. I'm hoping to do another OP on Friday, but we shall see. We've got the car MOT on Saturday, and I'm hoping that it doesn't need too much doing to it :-/Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Woohoo, weekend :j :j
So, no OP this week, as it's the dreaded MOT tomorrow. I'm hoping the car doesn't need much doing to it, but you never know? If it's not much tomorrow, I may do a small OP then. But, we'll see
Tonight we're having fish and chips, from the freezer, along with mushy peas:drool: and then I think we'll watch a film and have a relax. I've not been feeling great this week, so I'm going to have an early night

I feel a bit blah today. It probably doesn't help that it's chucking it down outside, and it's freezing. I don't want to put the heating back on (we have it on for half an hour in the morning and half an hour at night) as I'm slightly annoyed we've got it on already!
We're on track for our financial aims for this year. If we manage to stick to the budget, we shall reach them. The MOT yesterday cost £178 which isn't bad - it's been worse. We've booked plane tickets to Cyprus for a cheap holiday at February half term, plus the car park for the car whilst we're there. We're also on track to OP £7,000 this year, which was our aim. I haven't paid as much into savings as I'd like, but I'm not too stressed about that at the moment.
Why do I feel like it's not enough? Meh, I hate days like this.
Sorry for the depressing postBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Hi SF, I don't think you should be feeling blah at all. £7k is a big OP and imagine how much you've reduced the interest by - maybe that's a better way to look at it. If you can see that it's saved you xk or reduced your mortgage by a period, then you need to be doing a bit of this :j:j:j:j
The sun has just popped out here, I'll send some over to you

So, after my depressing post this morning, I decided I needed to get off the sofa, stop worrying about stuff and be a bit more productive. Between me and DH we have hoovered the downstairs, cleaned the bathroom, tidied away some stuff we bought yesterday and had a chill on the sofa and watched a film.
For tea, we've had mince, carrots, onions and peas in gravy inside a big yorkshire pud, followed by sticky toffee pudding and custardyum!
Forgot to say this morning, Luna came up about 7am and dropped a dead bird on our bed as a present _pale__pale__pale_ I shut my eyes pretty quick whilst DH dealt with it, and I'm pretty proud of my reaction! :rotfl: it was horrible, and I didn't really get back to sleep after that. Cats! Who'd have em?Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Woohoo, Monday is over :j :j I always find Mondays hard, and getting up in the dark and pouring rain this morning didn't make it any easier
We've had another NSD today; took soup for lunch and we had veg stir fry and noodles for tea. It should be NSDs all this week, I'm hopingnothing much else to report today.

There's an overpayment calculator on this site that's pretty eye opening for mortgages0
