Dividend investors tend to be very vocal in the PF blogging space, I'm not surprised you are encountering them. Personally I'm more a fan of index investing, but the decision is yours to make. *Not* having to stock pick is one of the joys of index investing, most active investors fail miserably when it comes to beating the market.
Isn't the point of dividend investing is that it doesn't particularly matter if shares go up and down on a day to day basis, as it's a long term investing strategy?

I will probably end up doing a mixture of dividend based stocks and then the vanguard lifestrategy 80% one - that's my current thinking anyway :o

Hope you're feeling better soon. :)
    Thank you :)
As for the coffee, my wife used to love going to Costa, something which greatly annoyed me as I saw how it was putting some of the independent places under a lot of pressure in Matlock. Anyhow, I digress, since she's also been watching what she spends, she has put the money she used to spend in Costa away. At the end of the year, she'll count up what she's saved from Costa.
I don't go that often, but I do like it occasionally as a treat :) it'll be interesting to see how much she's saved!
I really hope you manage to achieve your plans. I can't say I've ever considered retirement, although my work life isn't far from it now. ;) However, I don't think I still want to be working when I'm in my seventies like my parents.
The thought of working until I'm 70 just fills me with dread _pale__pale__pale_ which is why I'm trying to put steps into place now to ensure that it doesn't happen :)

That's pretty much the point of all investing ;)

We will both be interested to see what she's saved too. :) She still goes if work is paying. :rotfl: I know I've saved a lot from my previous penchant for cafe lunches, these days it's only when I go to Nottingham but I hadn't thought to actually put the money aside.

I think everybody is different in their views to work, my mother dreads the day when she won't be able to work, whilst father wants her to retire properly. I doubt I'll be so committed, can see me likely handing the responsibilities of the properties to my son if I reach 65 or so. However, a job so consuming as teaching is very different to managing BTL properties, in my opinion.

Not eating lunch out does make a massive difference :)

It's the all-consuming part of the job that isn't sustainable forever, I don't think; managing properties must have busy and slow periods, I presume? :)

I used to spend about £5-6.50 per day on lunch, must admit a part of the reason I did it was to get out of the house. These days I just go for a walk with my son, will miss that terribly when he goes to school. :( Making lunch rather than eating out does seem to be much more healthy too, I'm not sure you ever know what's going into other people's food. Can't say I've entirely stopped the eating out because neither my wife nor I particularly enjoy cooking. Well, I don't mind cooking, I just hate clearing up the mess.

Managing properties isn't too difficult, really. As you say, busy and slow times but not by any means an all consuming job, in fact it's one you can put very little effort into if you wish by paying others to do the work. I often consider becoming a school teacher, mainly because I find teaching my son and music pupils to be very rewarding. However, I don't think I could cope with the pressure of a full time teaching job.

Alex - having a walk every day with your son sounds lovely :) and homemade is definitely better, as you know exactly what goes into it!

Just been to Mr Ms and have spent £44 on food for the week :) we're having sweetcorn and crab chowder for tea with some olive sourdough - I have made a mental note to explore how to make a sourdough starter and attempt my own at some point, I love sourdough bread.

We've been to look at carpets this afternoon, but three of the places we'd planned to go to were shut  how frustrating is that?! Sunday is the only day when me and DH can do things like that together, as it's the only day in the week when we're both off at the same time. It'll need to wait until half term now, which is very annoying. I'd hoped to have got it fitted during that week, so again it pushes back the plans.

Added 5 x £1 coins to the baby pot today - it's basically a change pot that'll be left until baby arrives, then will be used for things we need unexpectedly, like nappies/milk or little things we've forgotten that we can pop to our local shop for. Trying to get organised! 28 weeks now and plodding along nicely :)

    Happy Sunday everyone :)

sourdough is easy to start, just remember you need to take up to 24 hours to make a loaf!
