Somerfields?

Options
Are they any good for value? One is being built about 4 mins from my door :D It's such a relief we now will have an alternative to waitrose for those who can't afford to shop there.

lots of people on hewre seem to think thatr somerfields is quite expensive - in the main I tihnk its roughlty about the same as tescos, asdas etc, although they are smaller carry smaller ranges and as a result have only a small "value" range/

thier offes are good tho I think , and their reductions are the best around here :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

    Hi Kimberly

A few years ago I lived next to a sommerfield and found it great for nipping into 15 mins before closing everything reduced to pennies, as for normal shopping in my area it was a little more expensive per item than the other shops so I tended to buy stuff on offer or in the clearance section.

Somerfield's is brilliant for marking stuff down early. I have been in several and about 1.00 pm they mark the stuff down 50% and at 3.00 they mark it down to 75%. I do not have one near bit if I lived close to one I would be mooching around there often to see the markdowns. Also their offers are as good as any of the other supermarkets. Hope this helps. Obviously i'll have a nose on the day it opens, bet it's a weekend :D I may still shop online at Tesco and like Purple said, go in 20 mins before it closes each day and grab the reductions :D

Well Somerfields MUST vary , we have one near us , overpriced and awful. If anything is on special offer , you can be sure that its not on the shelves!.As for marking down prices, the most ours does is 20p off. One checkout open regardless of the queue and rude staff ..oh yes our Somerfield is awful !!!

Our local Somerfields, as kickstart says, is often understaffed on the checkouts. That said, I don't find them any more expensive than other supermarkets and I have often made a real 'killing' on the salmonella shelf (reduced for quick sale, to those not familiar with the term!)

I think Somerfield tend to be pretty good for yellow stickers/reduced items, and for their BOGOFs etc, but are quite overpriced for basic goods.

The free instore magazine is very good for recipes, better than Tesco or Asda IMHO, and always worth picking up.

somerfields are ok for offer stuff, but the quality is nowhere near that of waitrose, we had somerfields 'best ever' burgers tonite (dont like cheap burgers!) they were tasteless and awful, will go back to waitrose aberdeen angus in future - which are quite often on offer!

I concur with the above - in general, they are not quite as cheap as ASDA, but their special offers and BOGOFs can be brilliant - I always pick up the instore magazine/leaflet, even if I'm just passing. The checkout staff are sometimes on their own, especially "after work", but that's not their fault.

Somerfields has different price tiers for different shops & because they are aiming for the convieniece market its mostly geared for small, quick, pop in shop. The smaller the store the more expensive (The same goes for tescos). I work for one of the larger stores my OH works 2 miles down the road in a small one, prices vary very much Except advertsed promotions. We can't compete with tescos and do not try to-we haven't got their money. As for the lack of staff Our new owners want to sell us on again in a couple of years & have made redundant("restructured")the dept heads(who ran the stores) and slashed the no. of hours to make more profit.Out of the 15 stores on our division I would happily shop in 8, 2 in an emergency and 5 no chance so give it a go it will definatly be cheaper than waitrose
