Hoarding - A New Start

  • I have read that men shop for what they need and women shop to see what they want

I laughed at your peppermill tales GQ - I don't use salt (except on egg) or pepper so decided to bin a set my MIL gave me - but the salt was at my late mum's house and peppermill at ours - so DD was bemused when I put the salt aside to bring home instead of the bin - because I had to throw them out as a pair! A supermarket grindy pot does just fine

I also aspire to having long cool jugs of drink in the garden with friends ... but all I use the jug for is to fill the kettle, which I could lift to the tap anyway as it is cordless - you really do need to see yourself through someone else's eyes sometimes!

Well I "sold" some goods on fb but the buyer didn't show up, and I have my 1st NPB on eby - ho hum!

I've decided that if my doctors' surgery think magazines are too germy to have around then I won't wish my germs onto anyone else so bin them as soon as read

Those of you who got into a cold sweat at the thought of my candle dericharding will be glad to know that once I got the hoard to a reasonable size (instead of a washing basketful dotted around various venues), I bought a decorative box to the exact size and it is atop a cupboard, with one candle/holder/matches combo handy to grab in case of powercut, on a windowsill
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow

This Year, awful as it sounds, it didn't especially upset me, living here I'd got used to the "abuse" about the Welsh, well not used, but water off a ducks back. I moved here in the early 70's and the racism about the Welsh was horrendous.
I've no where to put the trolley out of site, it's moved from room to room so far, but I'll take a pic and put on FB I think, and if it doesn't sell, CS it. Once it's gone I'll be fine!

Thought GQ's idea about the dresses is fab, but really, there's no need to make a decision on them, but just keep them.

I've done some clearing out! Finally. I had a box of stuff that came here when we moved, and also a memory box, managed to clear out about 1/2 of the memory box (cards and the like) and completely empty the other one. The now empty box is destined to become a paperwork store, need somewhere to keep lots of paper from work, I'm not sure how to organise it though as I have no folders or anything... But once the paperwork gets sorted, that will leave two empty spaces in shelving units - very exciting!

Piglet how exciting finding those dresses! Vintage is very big these days, so if you wished, I'm sure a shop selling vintage clothing would buy them from you.

Or they could be listed on eBay, or given to a charity shop. Or you could keep them. Or the cushion idea is excellent. But whatever you decide to do, there are lots of better options than the rag bag.

In a related turn of events, I had a 'run in' with some vintage clothing this afternoon.

My husband bought a small pile of cloth downstairs and said he didn't need them anymore.

When I looked at them, they were 1970's M&S Y-fronts!

They are white, and he used to wear them with white shorts when he played squash. Last time he played squash was about 1980.

Honestly, I think DH has more hoarding issues than me!

Anyway, they are for the rag bag, that's all they are fit for.

I don't envy those of you with a shopping 'habit'. I don't really suffer from this. I shop just a few times a year, not for what I need necessarily, but not in a compulsive way. I do aspirational clothes shop though...in a sale and should fit me, even though I know it doesn't....so I get it for when it will. I think I have said before, I load a basket or trolley with stuff but rarely buy it. I just have the thrill of it being in my possession for a while, rofl.

I threw away a very pretty bra with a popping out wire. I admit, I for d this hard. I loved this one, but it was never very comfortable. I have kept the knickers which are fine, but they have some synthetic content so I rarely wear them.....

No dericharding going on this weekend.

OH has told me that we're de-cluttering the kitchen tomorrow. I'm not sure what he means by that really as the only things out on the work surfaces are: kettle, mug tree, toaster, blender (in almost daily use) and the breadmaker (daily use) everything else has its place and is in its place. Since we got the extra cupboards that hold everything we need, anyway!

Maybe he wants (me) to clean the floor

We still have a toaster, but I mainly use the grill. I wish I could convince oter people to as well. It's easier to clean, and less clutter. :o

GQ I think I suffer from bargainitis too!! I truly have to avoid any shops as I always find there's something I didn't know I needed until I saw it, especially if it's reduced! I worked my way down from the high street shops to the cs but like you say it's still not necessary. Went for a wander in town with DGD the other day whilst her mum was at an interview and after had done my chores (posting ebay parcels!) had a browse in the shops, no money so didn't buy but am still hankering after the pretty clothes I spotted in Debenhams and have thoughts of matching crockery a la Wilkos:rotfl:The shops are the devil....
And the brick discovery made me smile - I would've had the same thought and rescuing perfectly good stuff from skips and bins... oh dear...:o

Gingernutty good luck with the job

Will be doing the tabletop sale again in the morning, so hopefully get rid of some more stuff. I'm finding that now I've started this dehoarding lark I'm finding all sorts of stuff being eyed up for disposal that I'd never have considered before. And am a little embarrassed at the carp I've kept:o Found a bag full of the plastic bags that I get the logs in (might come in useful for....?) plus a couple of large paper sacks that had potatoes in (for storing my masses of home grown potatoes of course:o) and an empty sack that had chicken pellets in.... I truly hoard absolute rubbish:o

  • I MOST DEFINITELY suffer from bargainitis!

I most likely also suffer from shopaholism, brought upon by daydreaming about what I should/could be and what I 'deserve' (of course!)

I AM recovering, but only because I have a family to bring up and don't have a constant stream of money, I still don't particularly have my financial future planned out and do live month-to-month

I think I could have had a great nest egg put by or at least a much better lifestyle if I wasn't caught up in buying things that would make it look like I had a better lifestyle!

Another 12hr shift (16 with travel) in the belt, another rant at OH when I got in. The working is too much for me, well, the him hanging around me looking for 'verification' from me after I walk in grates on me I just want peace to wind down, he doesn't quite understand, he has a 9-5 job where, for the most part he doesn't do too much and he works in town which is about a 20min bike ride away. I work 20miles from home and don't drive!

No dericharding (obvs) I threw back on the floor the wet washing that he had chucked (as a whole) on top of the horse tht was full of almost-dry washing GRRR!!!! I HATE this lack of control over things whilst I'm working

    Tumble drier?

Somebody else's hoarding is beginning to grate slightly on me. The Village Idiot Cat's to be precise. I was daft enough to buy him so ething resembling the moomin Sniff on a string/stick last week. It's got a fairly hard inside with a thing that makes a tweeting noise.

He carries it around with him, dragging the stick between his legs so he can play with it where he wants to.

At least the furry duck on a string doesn't quack. Of the fluffy yellow feather boa. Or the shoelaces.

All of which appear to be hoarded at the bottom of my bed right now, along with him, tweeting Sniff and his claws. Sniff is currently being murdered again. He's only missed and bitten my toes four times since about 5 am.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
