Help! Ebay claim I have 2 accounts - I don't!

Hoping someone who knows a lot more about ebay than me can help:o

I've held an ebay account for nearly 10 years and up until 6 weeks ago had only ever been a buyer. As a new seller, I am obviously restricted to selling 10 items a month initially.

I listed 4 items yesterday, taking me up to my 10 item limit for December. I had bids on all 4 items, the auction is for 7 days.

I have just logged into my ebay account and found 2 messages from ebay. The first tells me that based on my account activity my account is linked to another (it names the account) and because the other account is restricted I won't be able to sell any additional items. I DO NOT have 2 ebay accounts, never have and never would so I have no idea how ebay have decided that. The second message tells me that my items have been removed as they are not listed with a matching product from their catalogue.

Can someone please advise me on what I should do next? Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Many lovely wins over the years - thanks to all that post:A

As above do you know who the other account belongs to?

How have they linked this account to yours? I must have loads of accounts.

My current one is over 10 years old, Before that i signed up with lots of fake names.

Mr A User. and plenty more. I still get paypal emails on accounts i have not used for many years.

I have no idea what i signed up as never mind passwords and security questions.

  • Thanks for your replies.

I have no idea who the other user is, never heard of them! Nobody else has ever used my account, I have never paid for anything for anyone else who uses ebay or paypal. It's all a complete mystery.

I'm guessing I'll have to wait until 2nd January to call them now. It's so annoying as I had bidders on all the items that likely now think I'm a bad buyer/seller - I have 100% positive feedback - and may not be interested in the items when I am able to relist them.

The items are still showing in my ebay with a choice to relist them - I don't know how to do this by including the ebay product catalogue once the problem is resolved (which I assume it will be).

This has really put me off selling stuff, I am a genuine, honest seller just selling bits and pieces:(

  • Do you share a computer with another eBay user? Have you logged into eBay on someone else's computer recently? Or has someone else logged in to their eBay account on your computer recently?

Perhaps eBay made the connection via shared use of a computer?

  • Gosh, does that mean that Ebay will only allow one account per household? Sounds a bit extreme, really. My partner has an ebay account separate to mine but as we share a joint bank account, Paypal would not allow the bank account to be used twice - so we pay for items from the same Paypal account. Have had Ebay accounts for 12 years and 10 years respectively and no issues yet, we mostly buy, but I have sold a fair few bits and have feedback around 2000, although both our accounts are private, not business. I wasn't aware that using the same IP address or paypal account was a reason for ebay to close / limit your account, this is most unfair as people do share resources quite legitimately - it isn't our fault Paypal won't open an account for someone with a Joint Bank account if the other partner has already used it.

They really are a law unto themselves.

It's not using two accounts that is a problem, only if one of the accounts is flagged as having issues will they put stops on the accounts.

Many sellers have more than one account, I've got 3 active ones without any issues.

  • Well I did log onto my Mum's computer yesterday whilst I was there but she doesn't have an ebay account and wouldn't have a clue how to use ebay. However, friends of theirs stayed there recently and when I went to log into ebay on her computer, their details came up - BUT it was a different user name to the name that has been quoted to me. So, I'm thinking that perhaps their friends have 2 ebay accounts and me logging into my mum's computer has flagged up an issue?

Hmm, I'll try and find out from my Mum tomorrow if this other username that's been quoted to me is one of her friends ebay usernames.

Thanks for all suggestions. I can't believe that ebay would bother to restrict little old me with my £50 odd worth of goods a month:eek:

  • that happened to me once :( because my mum had an account and I started to sell on ebay, I created my own and then I had an email telling me that it is a duplicate account!
I called them and emailed them and they were useless. In the end I just gave up and haven't sold on ebay since because they won't understand we will have the same address and landline number!
  • Good luck. That has happened to me and ebay didn't even wanna hear any of it, they cancelled my account and that was it as much as I tried to explain. Gonna try to register new one soonish
