JSA and Sickness?

How many periods of sickness a JSA claimant is entitled to? How many days each period?

If its more than 7 days sickness then do you need a sick note from the doctor or can claimant Self-Certify it?

Can the claimant inform the job centre of the sickness after the job centre appointment or before? If after then how long does the claimant have to report the sickness?

The sickness periods are allowed in the claim period or in every calendar year? For example if the claimant used all the sickness periods in 2013 and afterwards closes the claim, then starts a new claim in 2013 then is the claimant granted those sickness periods again? Same answer to rapid reclaims?

Cheers,

Thanks for the link but still confusing. So is it saying if a claimant is on jsa for more than 1 year then the claimant is entitled to 2 sickness periods every 1 year or 2 periods of sickness in a claim period?

Do i have to get a sick note for sickness more than 7 days?

It is two sickness periods in every rolling year. If you are sick more than this, you will need to claim ESA.

Sanctions have no relevance to the OPs query - they are for non compliance, not sickness.

when you state 'rolling year' do you mean it starts every new year?

No, if you are sick in September 2012, then that period will be "on your record" for the next twelve months. It will be wiped in September 2013, not January 2013.

What if i decide to close my claim in may 2013 because I want to go abroad for a couple of months then come back in july to start a fresh claim for example. Will I get those 2 periods of sickness back with my fresh claim?

The periods would be linked, so no, you would not get the two periods back.
