people churning up my front garden

i live in a house that has a small front garden (only 2ft wide) that is next to a small car park that is always busy. the garden goes along the front the house up to the corner of the house which then turns into concrete.

drivers that cant find parking in the car park like to park on this bit of concrete and in the process drive over my garden the grass is churned up and i have even had a transit van spray mud all over the front of the house. i would like to be able to put some flowers out there in the spring but i know they will drive over them.

i have tried placing my wheelie bins and potted plants over the bit that they drive over but they just get out their car and move them.

my neighbour who garden is also near the concrete area had put up a small fence but people just drove over and through this fence and completely destroyed it in a few days.

apart from putting up a fence which means my little garden will feel even smaller also not sure if landlord would agree is there a way to stop people churning up my garden

Definitely get some rocks or how about some concrete posts.
  • I've heard that some people who are going to be planting greenery in their gardens sometimes lay out bits of wood with nails in for tying garden string onto so that they can plant in straight lines.

It would be a shame if some inconsiderate git decided to drive onto private property and didn't notice the nails.

I think it's appalling that people just drive on your garden, so I would take up George Michael's advice, or put out rocks (perhaps ones small enough to do damage but not small enough to be seen?). I assume that if they did damage their car you couldn't be sued as they were driving on private property without permission?

Deliciously ironic taking George Michael's advice on how to prevent other people driving into your property. ;)

I would consider buying a cheap cctv camera that plugs direct into your tv/video (perhaps split cost with neighbour) record the issues for a good couple of weeks and then approach the highway department to see what action you can legally take.
Perhaps even place some pots or even cones on the lawn during some days just to show how people will remove them.

Worth a try, surely if the highways can see the issue happening on film they may be more interested.
  • If you garden is only 2ft wide, just how wide is your house??

I thought that after I had posted, but cut me some slack as my memory isn't what it used to be. (Something to do with suspicious substances Andrew gave me in the 80's)
  • My MIL has big rocks placed in the bottom corners of her garden. They're big enough to see as a deterrent; anyone driving over them would ruin their bumper. But they can see them, so they don't drive over them. They're arranged nicely and look part of her floral arrangement. This way, people know they can't drive over without doing damage, which saves your garden being ruined. Hidden things will cause damage to cars and could possibly start a big argument, plus won't solve the problem of not ruining your flowers.
  • i might look into a rock but make sure they cant be lifted as already had my windows smashed in by kids dont want to give them any ammo

the garden 2ft wide but around 15ft long with a path in the middle
