    Yes, to be clear.

It is not a consumer right to receive a refund for a change of mind. The retailer is within their rights to demand a receipt (if this is their policy) if they want if you have simply changed your mind.

For a faulty item, proof of purchase is required. This is usually a receipt, but without that, a bank statement will normally suffice.

Be aware though, just having the reservation number and debit card will not necessarily be enough for some retailers because of the systems they use. Sometimes an exact date of purchase is more effective, sometimes even this is not enough.

Id agree if it was general advice, Maybe the thread title should specify the advice relates specifically to Argos.

    A little pedantic I think!

If it's in the wrong place it will be moved, don't let it bother you.

Not really, if its being put up for advise, the generalized thread title will lead people to believe its general advice within, when in fact, its totally specific to Argos.

btw, it doesn't bother me, its just not s clear as its being made out to be ;)

    Who was the 'jobs worth'?

From what I read in the post the Argos chap seemed fair enough and a refund was given.

I wonder if anyone can cite bragging on MSE as unreasonable behaviour in a court?

It was faulty and you did have proof of purchase, you were entitled to a refund. Try doing that again if you paid in cash, it would be a different outcome.

I don't pay for anything cash apart from my morning Costa

and now I have new debit card with proximity chip that might change :o)
