Got a refund without having my receipt

Took a faulty chainsaw back to Argos but I couldn't find my receipt

Guy said "Have you got a receipt?"

I said "I lost it - but have my debit card"

he said "You need a receipt"

I happened to look up and see the returns notice right next to him (he was on the service desk)

but on that notice it doesn't mention "a receipt", it says I need "proof of purchase"

"and?"

"well I can prove I bought it here not 3 days ago"

"how?"

"well i reserved it on # day at # time - the reservation number is on my mobile and you will have a record of the reservation number"

"but that just proves you reserved it"

"but I came in a bought that same reservation - with this debit card - you should be able to trace that reservation number to the purchase, and then to my debit card number"

he looked on his checkout till and found it (took him less than one minute - in fact about 20 seconds) - compared my debit card number (last few digits anyway)

"thats fine"

gave me a refund on that card :)
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

    It went down quite well - nobody got excited - all done a dusted in about 10 minutes

    thought i would post as my wife said no way ill get my money back without the receipt :T

    It was faulty and you did have proof of purchase, you were entitled to a refund. Try doing that again if you paid in cash, it would be a different outcome.

    I figured people without a receipt might be seeking consumer rights - but who knows

  • Had to take a iPod dock back to B&M and didn't have the receipt. After a minor bit of erring and umming, they accepted it based on seeing my bank statement on my phone app!
    One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

    Not really, it was about somebody enforcing their consumer rights and therefore posted in the relevant section.

    Id agree if it was general advice, Maybe the thread title should specify the advice relates specifically to Argos.
