And my issue is that the legal minimum is the legal minimum... So pay up or shut up...

Paying from you benefits at the basic £5 rate does not make you a good father either, as that is NOT paying...! Children cost a hell of a lot more than most NRP's pay...!!!
And yes i understand you still have bills to pay, and a life to live, don't we all...! try doing what others do when the going gets tough... I worked 3 jobs...! So i could better my life and my childs life...
Or i could of been better off sitting on benefit... Mmmm Hard decision that one...!!! Be a sponger or teach valuable life lessons to your kids who grow up respecting you...!0 -
TBF,
the law on CS2 doesnt take account of the income of PWC... so that is "irrelevant"
just like the law on CS2 doesnt take account of the living costs of family of second home of NRP.
im sure EVERYBODY feels that first and foremost everybody involved should be able to have the minium to live on before CSA is calculated (except of course the "i deserve everything i can get" PWC's)
but this isnt the case...
obviously, with the new benefits system coming into force... PWC's will be forced to do reasonable work...
BUT i agree with Withabix that tax payers end up paying twice when on csa too and a PWC works...
my issue is that PWC's dont cosnider that NRP's have to live too! and via the CSA NRP's cant live!
deductions are made for the children living in an NRP's household. Or at least they were the last time I looked. There is therefore consideration of the NRP's 'second family' needs.
PWC are forced to do reasonable work now if they want any kind of standard of living for themselves or their children. The only PWC who are permitted time out of the work place are those with children under 5. The Universal Tax Credit system is a worry for those of us working at minimum wage with children who need childcare - many of us will be paying to go out to work when the added costs of work clothing, travel, loss of housing benefit and council tax benefit, childcare at 30%, etc. are all taken into account. Indeed, I can't work unless I pay out £750 a month in childcare - that's a minimum of £225 I have to pay a month(more 'cos I don't get the full 70% contribution from tax credits) , or a week's wages at minimum wage. I thankfully earn more than minimum wage and work for me is worthwhile. But the figures don't add up for those on mimimum wage with more than one child, possibly even for those with just one child.
You are not the only person struggling, Wayne. You would do well to remember that.0 -

15% for one child leaving the NRP with 85% of their salary
The only time I can see a NRP struggling is if they have left a PWC to struggle but not paying and then accruing arrears which are then being paid at a total of 40% of salary.0 -

Which is still fair sometimes...! Not always, but sometimes...
I just don't get what some parents think kids cost...! If you can't afford kids on your own, then you can't afford kids... It is that simple, in todays culture of disposable everything, including relationships and families, you really should think about the cost to you as a NRP before you consider it as a couple...!!!

Strongly disagree this is a reason why, I pays my 15% without complaint, the OP has lost some bragging rights, which I fear is what the issue really is. A lot of employees at Hovis , Drive Assist and Comet to name a few are to lose employment soon if not already , the change of circumstance reported may well be geniune.

I understand exactly what you mean, but if you think about what the cost is at 15% before you have a child, and you are happy for it to be deducted from your wage for upto 20 years should you split, then you are right for having children, if you are NOT happy for that to happen should you split, then you are not fit to be a parent...
And by that i mean, if you really do think about the financial cost before you have kids, then you have NO right to complain after that you are being hard done by... It was your choice, and you have to live with the consequences.
I understand that people fall on hard times, things change etc, but it is still your responsibility and if you have any sense, then you plan as much as you can for the future. Like having a little savings for that rainy day, i know it never goes far... But it helps... It is too much of a MUST HAVE NOW society in the UK and it makes things hard when you are screwed up with so much debt as people have in the UK.
Maybe CSA should be taught in SexEd in schools...! It would be scary for a 15 year old to learn that he won't get all his earnings if he makes a silly mistake at that age... Contraception....? Who needs it, just make people aware of the !!!! the CSA cause after the fact...
And i wasn't talking about th OP, i was generalising to the previous post saying that you should not struggle to pay 15% as it costs a lot more than what you are paying...!0 -

Well they need to go and find another job pronto, don't they? Just as a PWC would if they lost their job!0 -
I can see there being lots of arguments over this...
Yes they do need to get another job, is it so easy, not always... But there are jobs out there... You only have to look at the amount advertised to the amount unemployed, i would bet money if there where accurate figures that you have more advertised jobs at any one time than there is unemployed people....
And if you want to work, you can, just that you may not be able to pick and choose your employment...! Or have to travel further than you would like...
What annoys me though is that you can have so much and yet still be eligible for benefit in the UK... I think that sucks...! You should not be able to own a car that is for sure...!!! If you have no job, then it should be sold to pay your bills...!!!
And there starts another argument...! 0 -

Hmmm...I heard on the news last night a 15 year old boy has disappeared. He is a father btw.0 -

Yes. This applies to both NRPs and PWCs.0
