Just another savings diary

Hey,

After getting so much inspiration on here, I decided I’d love to have somewhere that I can update daily on my savings, and also somewhere which can motivate me to save something everyday.

I should probably say now, before I go on that I have no savings at all, I've just put £35 in my sealed pot and 80p into my green pig, and that is the extent of my savings, so this will be a challenge for me as something always comes in the way of my savings!

So a little of why I want to save, every year I've dreamed of that little house in the country (read small cottage with a bit of land for an allotment say ¼ acre) that I want so badly, mainly so that I can finally have somewhere that I can call my own.

Currently at the moment I am living with my sister. My main is to have a down payment for a mortgage by my birthday (June) 2015, ideally with a down payment of 50K, an un-ideally a minimal down payment being 25K. Thankfully I wont be trying to save this all myself, fingers crossed the other half will save to, I will be doing monthly checks with him to find out A if he is saving and B how much, obviously if he isn't strong words will be said lol.

Tomorrow is going to be the start of my “financial” year, I have my diary all coloured and lined, I've also done a mega sad “savings” diary of where I will write what I spend everyday so that I can figure out where all my money is going and also to motivate me to save something every day, it also has sections for my 20p savings jar and my £1 sealed pot jar.

My dream goal this year would be 10K, so that’s what I’m aiming for and I’m going to do everything in my power to get there.

Don’t know much else to add.

Nessy :)

    Hey,

So I thought I would post an update, as it seems I'm not saving everyday sadly!

I'm trying really hard in the surveys to get extra cash so that I can use them for next Christmas. Annoy's me to hell though when I get around 80% through the survey and it says I'm not compatitable!!! Why oh why wont they let me finish them.

Not put any money away this week, though I haven't spent any either so thats good, if I manage till Saturday (when my week starts and I take out my weekly spending money) I'll be able to put £16 away into my savings :)

So Far on the Survey's I've managed:

    31/12/12
    Toluna - 1,800 points
    Mindmover - £1.50

    2/1/12
Global Test Market - 50 Market Points

Hope everyone else is doing well in their savings!

Good luck! Seems like we're saving in the same sort of way! :)

I know exactly what you mean about the survey's - I'm either not compatible or get most of the way through to be told it's finished or I dont 'fit' the demographic! Really annoying! :D
  • Hey,

Jes0rKah - thanks for the comment, I know if I save something however small everyday then my main amount will go up! Yeah the surveys really do annoy me, but might as well do something instead of sitting on my bum doing nothing.

So Friday update, so after the freezer breaking on the 1st and having to replenish all that my phone decided it didn’t like the new year and dove into the loo, I think it got a wee bit fried so using a bog standard at the moment, will have to get another next month but still just wondering whether I need a more "modern" one or not.

On the saving side, tomorrow is when I take out my weekly cash and I'm not going anywhere to spend money today, so I'm sorted it down into my different savings. £5 has gone back into my account to go straight into my house savings, £1 has gone into my £1 sealed jar and £1 has gone into my 20p savings jar and .50p has gone into my spare change jar.

So my savings up to this week are
    £1 Sealed pot jar - £36
    20p Green Pig - £1.80
    House Savings - £5.27
    Las Vegas Savings - £6.81
    Just Encase Savings - £0

Next week will be the start of getting back to normal so going to look at going swimming weekly again and then on my next payday will start my kettlebell classes again, I will see how this affects my savings before I decide not to continue going or not.

Hope everyone’s saving is going well

This is why I gave up on them all so quickly. I figure that the phrase "time is money" is very true and if I can't make minimum wage on these surveys, clickthroughs and games then I am better off using my time to keep me sane and doing things I enjoy. Or, using that time to workout and get fitter (something you're also looking to do) - The time I would be spending on these surveys, I now spend doing a workout at home and that isn't exactly time wasted because of it :p

That's a brillent plan! Do you have any recommendations as all I seem to own are the Ministry of Sound ones. I'm seriously thinking about giving the surveys up and concentating on the side businesses that I want to do. I realistically dont know how people can "earn" loads and loads of money from them.

Biggest Loser Workout DVDs have been £1 at Poundland recently if you've got a little space to do them in (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/biggest-loser-workout-dvd-only-1-pound-poundland-1424682)

I think people must end up spending a LOT of time doing them and any online activities they do revolve around them slightly. Have them all bookmarked and check them as often as they check their email and FB accounts. I couldn't do that. Minimum wage or not worth my valuable time I think.

Robin TBW – Ooooo might have to pick that up from somewhere, sounds good, we don’t have a Poundland over here, just recently to the end of last year got a Deals, cause such a fuss lol!!

Time for a quick update YAY! I'm amazed at how much I've saved this pay-check since its been Christmas, it seems little and often is really working for me.

Decided that for me the surveys are not the way to go, I tried a couple more which I got around 80% done for them to just tell me I'm not compatible, waste of time! Going to concentrate on getting my mini businesses up and running.

So my savings up to this week are:
    £1 Sealed pot jar - £36
    20p Green Pig - £1.80
    House Savings - £4.49
    Las Vegas Savings - £11.30
    Just Encase Savings - £10.00

Total saved up to today - £73.59 :j

Got a couple more weeks before I get paid again, so hoping to bump that up to £100 at least.

Hope everyone’s saving is going well.

Much better way of spending time! There is another thread I posted in last night and it's taken someone 15 months to earn £32 on there, which equates to about 7p per day. It's just not worth it in the end.
