3 Have Reneged On A Deal!

My wife has been badly misled by a Stroud, Gloucestershire-based mobile 'phone service supplier. In a nutshell, she signed up to a service with the assurance that she could downgrade when the monthly cost increased after 6 months. Unfortunately, we only have that assurance verbally, although I was present with my wife when it was given.
After 6 months the cost doubled but the actual mobile 'phone company (Three) refused to honour the arrangement given verbally by the Stroud 'phone company (JAG). Consequently, my wife is paying, by Direct Debit, more than £50.00 per month but she really needs to pay less than £20.00 or, preferably, go on to pay-as-you-talk.
We have complained to JAG by email and by letter but they have not replied at all. We have complained to Three who say that free downgrading used to be possible but that they have discontinued it. They require a payment of £50.00 from my wife to downgrade now! We have complained to Gloucestershire Trading Standards who have done nothing. Apparently the telecommunications watchdog, whatever it's called, will not deal with individual cases.
Any consumer's champions out there who can advise us what to do?
We have been advised to cancel the direct debit payable to 3 and return the handset but I'm worried that doing that would affect my wife's credit rating.

What does it say in the contract you should have been given when you got the phone?
Unfortunately as Jag is seperate from three, you only have a complaint against jag not against three, particularly if these charges, etc were in the contract.0 -
Nag Three, call up and try your best to speak to a manager, seen a couple of people on mse blag the downgrade fee... You could say your in financial difficulty and need to reduce your tariff, by them making you pay the downgrade fee you may not have enough to pay the bills ... might work?SLC: £13000+
Quidco: £131.24 (paid) + £0 (validated) = £131.24
Valued Opinions: £75 (paid) + £52.30 (received) + £4.50 (pending) = £131.80
StudentPanel: £250 -
Yes, I've been done on this one too - I posted yesterday 'extortionate 3' - its away down on the second page now, but have a read and my story is not dissimilar to yours.
I was sure there was more people than me affected by this, I wonder just how many?
There must be something that can be done.0
