Buying Freeview TV but have BT Vision (Freeview) Box

Options
Hi Guys

I'm not exactly tech-savvie so apologies if this is a silly question:

We need a new TV and a lot of the ones we want already have Freeview installed.

Will plugging our BT Vision Box into the TV (as we have with the current non-Freeview one) work, or are we going to have to mess about with all sorts of cables?

Thanks!

BT Vision box has HDMI output

all modern TV's have the same so makes sense to use that but your existing scart cable will also work

Yes, just plug the BT box in as you currently have with your old TV. You could add an another aerial feed or splitter to your new TV and tune in the Freeview channels on the new TV if you want, giving you an 'extra' set of Freeview channels, but you don't have to.

Run your aerial cable into your BT Vision box as at present, then a flylead from the RF Out of the box to the Aerial input of the new TV.

Then connect an HDMI lead between the BT Vision Box and the new TV.

This will let you watch Freeview either via the BT Vision box tuner (by switching the TV source to 'HDMI' input) or the TVs in-built tuner (by switching the TV source to 'TV'). This can be useful if the BT Vision box is recording two channels and you want to watch a third on the TV. Also it is often quicker to turn on the TV by itself to watch a channel rather than having to switch on the BT Vision box as well. And finally the new TV may have Freeview HD capability which the BT Vision box does not have.

You'll want to use an HDMI lead between the BT Vision box and the TV instead of a SCART to be able to watch HD internet content from the BT Vision box.

This would be the clincher for me, all the worthwhile new HD televisions have Freeview HD as standard.
