Hi i was wondering can you help?
Recently I thought about a career change. My husband works as a graphic designer and I was thinking of learning web design. In a perfect world he will design the web and I will take care of the rest. Problem is that I don't really know where to start, I don't even know if it's a good idea. What knowledge, qualifications are required this days?.If you can help It would be highly appreciated.
thanks

If you don't really know where to start, then I'd argue that this isn't the right career choice. There are many established web design companies (I run one, in my spare time, but I have many years experience in this sector) and it's not an easy business to gain a good reputation in.

It is also quite competitive, especially when you factor in overseas competition from coders in low-cost locations like India ... a lot of repetitive-type business can be done over the internet without any face-to-face contact being required. I know I can't compete with them, and so focus on local business and word-of-mouth recommendations. I'm just content that it's not my main source of income!

I really wouldn't go down this route, for all the reasons bod lists plus more.

Foreign locations price you out even if you have an exceptional reputation.

Web design is a category of graphic design. You need to be a graphic designer who can use Dreamweaver.
Anyone can put web pages together using standard templates and free software, but it won't look remotely professional unless you have design skills.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
