  • I was in Aldi early this afternoon. They were piling up for dumping all food dated 31st December including the small turkey and gammon joints. I fished one out as at the 50% price of £1.50 it will do for sandwich fillings once cooked. There were hundreds of packs of cooked chicken tikka, etc. which I would normally have picked up at half price and frozen, but my shiny new freezer is already absolutely jam packed. It is intensely mean and immoral of these SMs not to be less wasteful.

Sorry guys also wanted to say that I too am disgusted by the waste that goes on day day out by all the SM's I worked for one many moons ago and would cry while pouring milk down the drain in the car park outside, (2 crates worth at a time usually) all those calves and thier mums....shocking, and sadly the tip of the iceberg!!

onion soup, good idea, I've got some leeks in freezer too, might bung those in too. Only stock cube stock though, still it'll do.

Put the onion skins in as whole as you can keep them, fish them out before serving the soup, they give it a lovely rich brown colour.

    hi,

Just to add another "yes" to get the stuff out of the bin, but also to send you hugs in what must be a difficult situation to be living through. Been there, got the t-shirt as they say and I hope things will get better for you very soon.

And a slighty less grown up thought... can you make the most delicious smelling meal in the world with the food... and eat it in front of him...in the full secret knowledge he has paid for it? lol

And don't forget his toothbrush makes an excellent alternative for a toilet brush... :rotfl:

    love and hugs

I'd sew shrimp in his trouser hems. But that would make me nasty, vindictive.... and quite creative :rotfl:

I've bin fished before and am proud. Books, 2 casserole dishes, a pack of duracell batteries unopened in date and a rather expensive pestle and mortar. I've been upset to leave food in the bin, but it's a large communal one and that would be a bit ick. I'd have no hesitation pulling something wrapped out of my own bin. When I pulled out the last casserole dish (pyrex, clean and as new, no idea why it was in the bin), hubby suggested I get one of those extendable grabbing arms.....

  • to waste food is in my opinion a sin and no way would I see good food wasted.no bin dive and salvage what you can,who cares if he finds out even, far too much food is wasted and thrown into landfill sites along with perfectly serviceable stuff. You go for it honey and enjoy what you save.I too chop and freeze onions. The last lot I had was a huge net 5 kilo bag bought last August for 10p in Sainsbobs.I bought it and when home spent almost a day chopping and freezing and passing bagfuls on to my family and neighbours. At that price no way was I going to not buy them.I still have four white plastic bagfuls in the freezer (around 2lb I'd guess) and to me it was my bargain of 2012.Once chopped and frozen they are so much easier when you only need a handful for cooking with
  • Hi, I hate to waste food as well but have always been very cautious about cream. I have two tubs of Madagasca cream dated today, (31/12) and was worried as I need them for new years day meal.

Do you guys think they will be ok, they have been kept in the fridge?. I stupidly bought on line from SM, so could not pick best date.
