    Surely that's illegal under current legislation, and surely it would mean that they would end up with worse sound than using a CD player?

    I doubt the OP would notice a fall off in quality, could be wrong of course.

    Assuming continued use of the Bose system, possibly not; but if and when he/she upgrades to a quality system, the mp3s will show their limitations, and the OP will hanker for the CDs again.
