Advice req housing benefit

Basically our daughter returned home from Uni pregnant armed with boyfriend who we agreed that they could live here with us until the baby was born which it was on the 12 dec Neither are employed and we have supported them during this time
Now they have saved up around £1500 from some pt work they have their names on the housing list but were told they would be entitled to a two bed place once the baby was born
Im thinking that if they are offered a two bed place and its suitable they won't need a deposit as their rent etc will be paid by the state and this money they have will be used for the bills etc Or will they be req to make any form of contribution I've said that hey can stay until the end of jan but I want to see some serious signs of motivation in finding somewhere on their part as so far their hasn't been a lot even thou they were told by the council etc to start looking in November as people in the private properties would have to give a month notice etc anyway before the place became vacant
To be honest he situation isn't viable much longer as I work long hours and we don't get a lot of time to ourselves and don't get a lot of sleep and I don't think either of them know what a Hoover is or how to operate a washing machine or any other appliance other than a Xbox
If I have to I will issue a letter stating the fact that they are out. We can't financially support this situation much longer plus its causing a lot of friction with our other children who have moved out and we are constantly being told we've got MUG on our foreheads I would add however that the others moved out prior to her returning and that this wasn't the reason they done one

Is she and/or her partner still registered as students? - this will impact what housing benefit help they can receive as things like student loans are counted as income

Housing benefit is paid in arrears so they are likely going to need their savings for the deposit and the months rent up front

Students generally cannot claim housing benefit, so if they are both registered as students they will be expected to use their student funding to pay their rent
If one is a student and the other was claiming JSA for example, the JSA claimant could open a housing benefit claim but much of the student funding would count as income, reducing the amount of housing benefit

But surely your daughter did her own washing at University and helped out at home before that?

Lighting up the chalice actually we live in a very quiet area over looking the fields and the Severn valley and our 4 bed house is very warm which we own thank you and for those interested in the local press it's the Gloucestershire echo and all both myself and my wife work full time and pay our way thank you and we do not breed parasites either if you would like to meet up somewhere and discuss this face to face I'd be more than willing

Is this the paper you mean? I can't find the one from yesterday, but I have linked to one from last week - care to point out all the benefit fraud being committed by foreigners? There are some benefit fraud cases on an earlier list, but the names "Michael John Winley" and "Deborah Mann" sound rather English to me!

    I'm smelling BS ...

Do you have room in your 4 bed house for your daughter and grandchild?

Would you prefer your daughter and grandchild to live off benefits, it's very difficult for people on benefits to get off this merry go round.

I would suggest that your daughter's partner get a job, save up and find a place to rent for his family.

Don't concern yourself so much with what you perceive people from other countries are doing, have some respect for yourself and your family.
  • So has the boyfriend now finished at uni and can therefore get a job and support his new family?

You don't paint such a rosy picture on other threads.

At least we got our health which money can't buy anyway I dare say it will all work out in the end
  • by the way, the taxpayer DOESN"T pick up the thread for foreigners contrary to some vaguely xenophobic remarks on here. Most councils allocate points, and one of the things that gets you points is how many years you have lived in an area.

Well as both parents are working and paying taxes why shouldn't they expect something back from the tax payer for their children

If you don't realise how much of your "tax pot" has already been spent on your children (in the form of child benefit, NHS treatment and education among other things) you are very naive.
